Engine Building??? For Drag Racing
Ok I have a 1992 Sentra SE-R I have stripped the engine out and in the process of a rebuild. The car isnt daily driven anymore and I need some suggestions. What should I do with the engine should I go turbo like everyone else with this engine, go nitrous, or shoudl I go all motor? What should I do I want to get it back together or get the process underway and I cant make my mind up. So here are the choices.
id also go with the sr20 swap...build the motor, get a heathly fuel system with all #10 lines, some sort of engine management, stick a large turbo on there(sc61)

be different and put a GTR motor in there ...

Here is the deal the car came stock with a SR20DE all 91-94 SE-R's came stock with that engine. I already had a Honda actually 2 of them a CRX and a Civic Coupe and so did all my friends and they still do. I sold both of them at different times because I wanted to get out of the Honda car scene just for a little while and try something different. My younger brother had the 92 SE-R and was gonna sell it. Since we had ran everything from GSR's to Acura Legends on this car and outran them (most of them had i/h/e) with a stock engine and 130k on the odometer I figured the car is decently fast stock so Im gonna get and try something new. I have ran 14.9's with it stock and 136k on the odometer. The only downfall of these cars was or is the tranny and the valvetrain. Im not sure how many of you have ever ridden or drove a 91-94 SE-R but they are pretty surprising cars. 140hp and 140ft lbs of torque.
I was thinking about the turbo route and still do often but the tranny just doesnt hold up. I know for a fact that I could run upwards of 20 pounds of boost on the stock engine. I think the record whp on a stock SR20 was about 450whp with stock internals. The engines were made for boost stock because that is how most of them came in Japan. Going turbo is cool but can get super expensive with all the engine management, and the turbo, and all the other stuff you need. It would be cool and there is alot of people with SR20's running turbo but on the FWD SE-R's with a stock tranny they just will not last that long 3 gear will be gone and the tranny caseing is notorious for cracking where the right axle connects up to the tranny. There are fixes for that like cryo treating the gears and welding up the case but still only last a short while. So if I went with a turbo setup I should look into also having several beefed up trannies laying around which isnt cheap either.
So if I were to go all motor how many of you in here would be willing to help me pick the right parts and answer questions? I know its not a Honda but alot of the same concepts apply to this engine. It has the same rod/stroke ratio as the B18C just doesnt rev as high stock and doesnt have VTEC. Its more like the B18A/B engines only a 2.0 liter.

Im goin through the same with the 91 SeR i just got. It doesnt run, and i need to get it here (will pay for it this weekend actually). I was thinking of keeping the stock motor but as you said, tranny is a bitch.
Hondaraceengines.com has recently done a good bit of work with SR's and such. Contact Brad. If you are in Va, hes not too far from you. Hes in Concord NC.
I would do the junkyard turbo if its not gonna be a super power car. If it is gonna be a beast i would use a g20t tranny or do the sr20det swap.

I suggest getting a stock SR-20DET out of a Nissan Bluebird or Pulsar GT-R. These cars have versions of the SR-20DET that are front wheel drive. It will bolt straight into your Sentra. I know 2 guys who have Bluebird motors and they are both well over 500 horsepower. They have done nothing to these engines except change the head gaskets and turbos and have not had any problems after a year or so. Contact your local importer of used Japanese engines.
I know what kind of power the engine will hold with little work done to it other than turbo. The problem is Im not building a 500whp car now. I just dont have the money for all the trannies that I would be swapping.
On the other hand I might look into getting some headwork done by those guys Stunna Ben.

get a stock det and get a direct port kit and spray a 100 shot. and get a super afc and go run 11s all day long. are nissan went 11.4 @125 stock motor just with s3 cams.
That is really cool but I remember reading somewhere that the guy with that SE-R has went through about 4 tranny's already. Im not gonna do that or atleast I dont want to.
your are going to go thru trannies to. they break all motor. if it was me i would rather have the tranny break because to much power.
I know that trannys break all motor I have 2 sitting in my garage. I would love to have a ton of power but like I said these stupid tranny's that came on the SE-R are straight dumb they break to easy. I have heard though that someone is figuring out how to swap the new SE-R Spec V tranny onto the older 91-94 SE-R they are alot stronger. Also there is a place in Australia that makes a gears set for my tranny but the cost is right around $3000.00 for the gear set? That is exspensive.
