Default DSS issue

I have picked up DSS stage 3 axles, hubs and studs *never used off of Vaporboy on H-T. They where a good deal i couldent pass up.

On my 4th pass on them It seemed to pop out of my spool and Stripped the end of the axle and 1/4 of the spool (pro drive spool). My tire pressure was down to about 6psi hot...I thought the tire spun on the rim because it shot me towards the wall...

I realize i have to Get the axle fixed and Get a new Diff but what caused this thing to come out, I have solid motor mounts, The spool worked fine i ran Stock axles for over 20 passes no problems.

I have heard of this issue with the DSS axles coming out of the tranny, what is going to fix this issue?

Was the axle all the way in? I know with my dss axle it will feel like it snapped in but if you push it and wiggle it, will go in about a 1/4 more.

i had this exact same thing happen to me. ive been running my DSS stage 3s for 3 yrs but that EXACT same scenario happened to me this year. you couldnt pull the axle out without big effort so i always thought it was all the way in. whenever you look around the axle seal it never looked like it was seated in there all the way. keep suggestions coming guys.
the axles were stronger than the spool in my car. however richmond warrantied my spool too.
im kind of scared to put the whole drivetrain back together and have the same thing happen again. i never did know for sure what happened. all i know is i launched and something let go and shot me to the side.

interesting,,,

I am ditching the spool, and For next year i am putting and OEM C clip on the end of the axle...

also possibly putting a shim between the hub and the axle to help keep it pushed in

i put my axle in the spool while on the bench and it snaps right into place like it supposed to. i dunno, maybe once its installs it will be different. ill check it out real well. i mean i did make it 3 yrs on that thing without issue.

Are you using the right motor mounts? It could be possible they were not machined properly or you just got the wrong axle.

Call up Lee or Frank over at DSS and they'll take care of you.

he said there shouldnt have been any issues with input shaft length into the tranny. it might be a richmond problem. once i get the tranny back together ill do whatever i have to to fix it.

You need to make sure the axle is the tranny all the way. After we made sure rota's axle was seated (big hammer and block of wood)we never had another issue.

Lee said his thought was the axle was not seated.

Then when the Stage 5's came, they don't appear to go in as far but we have not had any issues with them.

i believe at one point i also measured the depth of the splines in the spool VS a stock ITR diff. everything that i measured was well within specs IMO. i also measured the width of the spool sitting on end, good there too. i dunno what to think, ive got a long off season to screw around with it.
