Drag Radials For my EG in 14 " (quick help)
I have a 1992 EG B16A2 With a modified Drag Gen 3 kit.
This is my setup:
Eagle Rods
Wiseco 9:1.5 pistons
RC 650cc injectors
Walbro 255 pump
Turbonetics T3/T4 turbo
Drag manifold
Tial 38mm WG
Blitz Blow off valve
Clutchmaster stage 4 clutch
etc. etc...
Quaife Differential in Y21 tranny
Driveshaftshop's 400 WHP performance axles
And to the tire choice, what shall i choose for best "take off" ? Im running on 14" rims.
My thoughts went directly to the
BF Goodrich g-force Drag Radial 225/45/14, or the 215/60/14. If there had been a 235/50/14 the question already had been solved, but there isnt.
Please come with suggestions of different tires i can run, im not interested in slicks, they have to be DOT approved!

i used to have a set of the 215/60/14's on my old hatch... i pulled 1.9 60ft, coulda been better with a set of traction bars....
things i recomend while running drag radials...
- around 11-12 psi(air pressure in tires.)
- make sure you do a good burnout, cause they dont work too well if they arent hot and sticky.

That's my worry yes...
Are there and other brands available in these type of tires.
If MT ET STREET were available in smaller diameters i would be happy

Dturbocivic, is right about the tires but is slightly wrong about the burnout, "radials" whether they be drag radials or regular radials are designed to be operated on, in a certain temperature condition, that is why they have a temp rating and a traction/treadware rating, anything with a "00" treadware rating like BFG drag forces do NOT need a burnout but merely a clean off before you pull onto the staging section of the track.
anything above or below the temp rating, despite what is thought about rubber and heat will actually cause a loss of traction.
call BFG and ask em'

yeah the only other choice for a radial is the notto 555r of course and to be honest nitto uses a little extra weight, meaning thier compund is a bit different than other tire makers, therefore some traction is added by the extra weight, meaning your car cant move the stopped mass as fast, therefore adding traction. the 14s are okay for cars under 275 i would say.
my turbo b16 absolutely destroys 15 inch BFG G-forces, at any rpm above 5500 until 4th, i think i am gonna have to get the M&H bias ply or somethin else

For the record if u 10-11 lbs of pressure in the tire they slow u down top end as opposed to 20lbs where they are supposed to be and heated correctly

I have just bought the
225/45/14 BF Goodrich G-force Drag Radials i really hope they will work good
If there was like 235/50-14 i would have bought them directly.

I run 205/55/14 Nitto 555r drag radials and before I race I heat them up like they are going out of style. They hook MUCH better after a nice smokey burnout... the hotter they get, the better they hook (my experiances as well as some of my friends). I have tried launching or doing a roll on in 2nd gear after a little burnout or none at all, and they don't hook nearly as well. That is with them on the street and I run them anywhere from 16-20psi.
At the track I have ran them as low as 12psi and I do the usual smokey burnout and pulled a 2.0 60ft, which I think I can do better since I have only been to the track once with them.
I have been looking into getting 15 inch rims so I can step up to 225/50/15 wide bfg's since the fastest street hondas in the world run that size tire. http://www.fastestfwdstreetcar...e.htm

I would have gone with the M&H DOT tire. I've used there 22x8 slick and the 13" DOT and there wasn't much of a time difference at all. They have a P235/60-14 in the M&H also.

DRAG RADIALS do not require a burnout to be launched on, call nitto, call BFG, call M&H and they will tell you.
radials lose grip with too much heat, like i said a little spin once you go around the water box when pulling up to the light is al you need.
old school 15inch nittos i cut 1.9360ft
M&H 22x8x13 slicks i cut 1.61 60 ft times
tire pressure needs to be appropriate to HP, if you dont have enough power to rotate them and keep them inflated, you will fall off on the top end, and you will bog. youm ay cut super 60fts but bad trap speed and 1/4 et, but your 1/8th will be better

Drag radials won't hook worth **** if you don't heat them up, so I am going to have to say they do require a burnout. Maybe it depends on what brand tires you have, but nitto's work much better when hot. I am guessing bfg's and other brands are going to be very similar. So do a burnout to get your tires nice and sticky if you want to hook up off the line well.

^^^^^hmmm.....I don't know **** about heating them up or not, but Beerbitch....i mean Beerbong do you think a burn out in the waterbox should be done or out of the waterbox?

Re: (mrbsponge)
mrbsponge stated it well u definately dont want to bog...... but i disagree you should roast those tires up. and run a bit higher pressure. they are designed to become stickier with heat. Simple proof tires hook better in the summer than in the winter. Simply because the tire is hotter.

Re: (adseguy)
I searched google for a little while trying to get some info and got a lot of different answers from different random websites. Almost all of them said do a burnout with drag radials though. A few said go around the waterbox, a few said go through the waterbox, some said either way is fine.
I guess it's up to you and what works best for you. I have only been to the track once with my drag radials, but I went through the waterbox and did a smokey burnout. Like I have said before, they hook better for me when really hot.

Vtecberra i would suggest going with BF Goodrich g-force Drag Radials, but if it is possible go with straight slicks
i use the BF goodrich radials 205/50/14's on my all motor gsr powered eg and i pull a lil under 1.9 60 ft consistantly.

Ok nice.
Just found out that BF Goodrich are available in 225-60-14 what do you think about that size?
I will approx have 350 hp in my engine 1.2 - 1.3 bar on 160hp...
