I would guess they adapted a Medola or similar sand rail style transaxle to it. We've done that with a Honda V6 in a sandrail. If it is in the rear like suggested

It's setup to rotate clockwise so the normal transmission will work.

So it has an electric waterpump im guessing? Check out the fuelrail too...some1 spent alot of time in this build u would think they wouldve atleast made it vtec.

The vw/sandrail guys have adapter plates for pretty much anything you can think of attaching to a vw or porsche transaxle.
