Custom s20 shift fork...
Well guys i second pass out and thought i blew my diff, took the trans apart and man o man did i send some alloy in pieces on the shifter fork! My Fabricator FTW is currently desigining a new more improved one. Trying to get a feeler out there and see if anyone else would be interested in one of these. This is one of the weakest links in our trans and if we can get a nice piece here made i think i would be a great investment, what do you guys think? Transzex have anything to input here? Ill take some pics of my carnage!

I tried to do these years ago when I was mashing them up all the time lol I got no bites at all and started looking for an S40 trans before I went with the B trans.
Can't wait to see them though! It will save people who already spent the money on the S20 trans with parts and such.

Its a double edged sword with these D trans, run the S20 and it pops forks if you miss or clash a gear, run a S40 and you start destroying sliders which are not cheap. You can make a s20 fork last for a good while if your soft on the shifts and not try and put your fist thru the dash or back window.

Why don't you produce the CG kit to the masses so you can add more info and hook people up instead of just mentioning it everywhere. Not everyone has the facility or means you did and it would really help people out, I get countless PM's and send them your way but I don't see anymore people out there with them.
what do you mean the facility or means? i have a small *** 2 car attatched garage with some craftsmen tools lol..
just trying to help people out here and there. but either way i have never had a problem with either aluminum or steel shift forks. i guess i dont bang gears hard enough. but i dont see the point of doing something with the z6 trans and shift forks when you can just use a y8 that has steel shift forks.

yah for sure ryan, i wasn't aware that you tried this lol makes sense though. I really didn't think i was bangn gears too hard think the fact that the trans had over 200k had alot to do with it. Whats up with the cg trans man? Care to share.... I would go with the y8 trans but z6's seem to be more abundant to me. And if frank can do this for a fairly inexpensive price than i would think it would be worth it like you said to people who have spend money on their s20s allready by building them and such..
well i just off the phone with frank talking a little more in depth about this project. He is saying it would be a full chrommoly unit 4130 with a welded assembly. I am currently trying to get my hands on a working shift fork now so we can get the project going, if someone would be willing to ship us one we would be willing to help them out a bit.
Easier to get a Y8 or Y7 trans, LSD's are available for both, use whichever mainshaft you need for 2nd gear.
Gearing is the same, bearings are the same size, 92-00 A000 and B000 respectively.
Change out the 3/4 slider in the Y7/Y8 and that takes care of the slider wear. There is a wear problem with the steel forks, but it occurs over a long period of time and there is a fix for it I found.
Everything in a currently built Z6 trans will swap over to a Y8 trans (less the forks obviously). All you have to do is make sure to swap over the mainshaft oil guide plate as well.

You should really attatch the link to you CG how-to thread. Shorten it up a bit and put all the steps in one post. Its one hell of an informative write up. You did some big things there considering you are the only one I've seen do that setup. I give you props for your ingenuity. Throw your idea and creation out there a bit more and possibly produce a kit and you'll be the D-series high HP hero.
If the price is right for the custom fork I'm down with that. Sounds interesting. I realize the newer trannies have steel forks and are more durable but, if I can eliminate having to look for a complete tranny thats a plus IMO.
You're going to spend less on a Y8 trans that you will a custom fork.
Its not just using steel, its how it welded, how its heat treated, and making sure the positioning is exactly correct. Otherwise it will cause more problems than it helps.
