Default CRX Project Pics

Some of you know me, most of you probably don't, but this CRX has been a bit of an on-going project. I just thought that i would show off some recent pics of how things are going with it. If you'd like to see what it looked like before, head on over to http://www.rpiracing.com/raceteam/S_FWD.htm, and check out the progress photo's ;D

Anyway, on with the show:

The box next to the nitrous bottle is going to end up being our water tank... its only spot-welded atthe moment (still not 100% on that location though):

Disregard the 'home depot' rubber IC pipe couplings... they are being used for mock-up purposes only, while we await new silicone and T-bolt clamps...

The Money Shot:

Hope you enjoyed the pics!

Hoping to have the car mostly-done by the re-run of Battle in Orlando... it'll be running a back-up engine at that event, but shortly thereafter, it'll have its full race engine finished... assuming of course that everything works out during the rest of the build-up... hehe.

We are building the car towards the Turbo4/SportFWD/Pro-Am rules

I dont know if its the angle of the camara or what but it dont look like you have much room on the other side of the turbo for a downpipe to connect to the rest of the exhaust..esp for sport fwd which requires you to have a full exhaust....that's gonna be a bitch to do with that turbo sitting like that.

they already had one of our manifolds and could have easily copied it... they asked for it and it was supposed to be a semi sponsorship sort of thing, but we all know how those things go, thats why it went to the forsale section on this board.

i have enough other ppl copying it anyway, its good to see a new design!

I use a (relatively) simple 3D modeling program to build any manifold we make before i actually take the time and expense to cut metal... saves time, saves money, and i can try out all the idea's i want. I can't get you a screenshot of the file for this current manifold (it doesn't exist anymore, never thought i'd actually need it again), but i can show you one from another manifold that we just got finished making.

The program file screenshot:

Which then turns into this:

The program is Rhino3D by the way

It probably is the camera angle, but there's juuuuust enough room actually to bring the exhaust over and down to the center, so that i can run the full exhaust out of the rear of the car

Our intentions here are not go go off and start copying everyone elses design on manifolds. Geoffs design is awesome, and yes, it does have a lot of people copying it. I'm not here to make any enemies, and as-such, have done my best to stay away from Geoffs 'Full-Race' manifold design. We did have one here, and could have easily copied it, but chose not to. Me and Geoff may do some of the same things (e.g. making manifolds), but i don't want to be on his 'bad side' just because i copied a manifold design... it prevents a lot of drama and needless arguing.

However, one could argue, that there is only so many ways to make 4 pipes collect into one, and have them still be both designed well, and aesthetically pleasing... inevitably, there will probably be similarities in any manifold made.

It was a 'sponsorship' sort of thing, but i still paid right near full price for it. Anyway, we did give that manifold a lot of publicity, especially locally (it is still up on your website also). The main reason it went to the for sale board, is because 1.) it sucks to have to sit there and tell someone that you make manfiolds, but then have to tell them that the manifold on your car is made by someone else. 2.)We were moving to a new setup, and the manifold would not have worked for it (as you can see).

to Full-Race The manifold did serve me well, and it did get a lot of attention... it now has a new owner, and will hopefully continue to do so.

no argument jon and certainly no hard feelings, stuff looks good! are you using a horizontal saw to cut?

Thanks! I'm not using a Horizontal saw, because i don't like how it 'walks' sometimes... What i use is this:

http://www.dewalt.com/us/produ...D=159

It is sort of like a chop saw, but it uses metal blades like a cold saw. It also runs at a much lower rpm than a chop saw. Ungodly loud though, but it cuts cleaner than anything else i 've seen. Only problem with it though, is that the blades are expensive as hell, and you need a separate one for stainless than you need for regular steel. I'm working right now with a machine shop to make a better base for it though... combining what would basically be a miter saw base, with this saw, and fixtures to hold the bends.... should work really good.
