Capping Coolant Lines?
Im sure this isnt the right forum to post in, but...
Considering there are more people here that dont run a thermostat, and more people that have a clue, I figured this was the best place to get an answer. If its not ok, please move it. Thanks.
I dont have a thermostat. So I dont have a need for the thermostat bypass hose, or the heater hose. Right now I have them looped, but I hate how cluttered the bay is, and want to clean it up.
Is there a good cap, or good method to capping off coolant lines? Or is my best bet, to weld up the ports that the hoses connect to?

so its cool to block that bypass hose as long as you dont run a tstat? i wasnt sure if it was ok since it was coming off the head and might block flow or something.....

you can close the heater hose port on the head using a rocker rail retainer plug. then you need to weld/seal up the water neck hose ports. I wish someone would sell a silicon water port cap...I just replace mine whenever i see wear on them. I use caps on thermostat housing. So i have no tstat and just the 2 main radiator hose.
What caps do you use? Ive got a D series, so I dont know if the ports are all the same or not.
Yea, itd be awesome if someone made a silicone cap.

Re the heater hoses, you can find big rubber caps that fit nice and snug in the those red "HELP!" packages at almost all parts stores (you probably walked past them 500 times lol). Not as nice as welding shut, but they do the trick for the budget racer.

what i did was ghetto but i needed a quick fix since i heard that the caps crack and shoot out all the coolant, what i did was cut the hose leaving enough to be able to clamp something and that something was a spark plug lol i just shoved a spark plug in the hose and used a regular hose clamp, it's worked great, never leaked once, i ran it that way for about 7 months.. ghetto but it worked.. i trusted that more than a cap..
now that i got the motor apart and ready to be rebuilt i had them all welded shut
also i have a question, what about the hoses coming out of the intake manifold on b16/itr heads, ive seen people tap them and put like AN or NPT plugs on them but would i run into any overheating issues? the car wont be a daily driver anymore but i would be driving it around town on weekends just wanna be sure it wont be overheating at every red light or anything..

Yea, I put a vacuum cap on one of my water pipe nipples, and it shot off in the first 8 miles, drained the block, and blew my head gasket, on a fresh build.
So I put a hose on it, put a bolt in that, and clamped it. Havent had an issue since. I guess I could do that with a really big bolt, for the heater hoses.

yeah i was looking for a big bolt to shut mine cuz thats how i ran the nipples coming off the water pipe, i just stuck a M8 bolt in there and clamped it, but since i didnt have a bolt big enough to shut the larger hose with my neighbor suggested using a spark plug and it fit snug lol
