i lost my spreadsheet that calcuated tire size and the difference between two tires
setup:
chassis is a 97 civic ex
motor makes 203whp and 140tq on a dynapack
USDM gsr trans with 4.985 fd and 3.07 first gear
so just a quick question. im looking to purchase a set of BFG's to use the few times i go to the track this year, as i do not have the money for a full slick setup this season. i have some 14 inch rims laying around...
the bfg's are available in 205/50/14 and 215/60/14, i typically run a 205/50/15 street tire and know i have the clearance for it. obviously the wider the radial the better, but which of those two sizes would better simulate my stock tire size to not affect the gearing too much?
any other input is greatly appreciated.

my car makes almost the same #'s as yours and i had 2 sets of the bfg drag radials and was very dissapointend in them and i think you will be too. i ordered a set of mt street 2 drag radials in 205 60 14 and they hook alot better trust me.

most of the people i have seen unhappy with them treated them as a slick and not just as an aggressive street tire.
things like not enough heat in them, launching way too high etc...otherwise i saw people happy with them.

that would completely negate the fact of getting radials because by the time i bought wheels i might as well just buy a full slick setup.
the issue was money was tight. did you not read?

You currently run 205/50/15 which are 23.07in tall.
205/50/14 = 22.07in
205/60/14 = 23.69in
The bfg's work well as "Aggressive street tires" and will work much better than regular street tires at the track. And if you are on a budget, they should be just fine for you.
Are you currently finishing in the top of 4th?

i havent been to the track with the new transmission yet. last year with 7whp less and the factory gsr box and shifting at 8700 i was not reaching the top of 4th.
actually heres a vid of one run.

id say i was below 7k with how close i had to hit 4th to the line. im hoping with the 4.9 i can have my shift to 4th much farther back from the line, but the 1st gear should help my launch a little.
