There are stamped wheel halves and forged halves. When you have a wheel barrel that is forged, it is much stronger than those stamped aluminum halves. Some manufacturers will say "forged" wheel in their description but read carefully as they will only say "forged" for the center of the wheel. The wheel barrels themselves may not be.
There's even cheaper wheels that are not forged at all. The wheel barrels and centers are not forged aluminum. So hence the cheaper price, which are obviously cheaper quality.
Forged wheels are the strongest you can get out there in the mass market. Especially when its a TRUE forged wheel, meaning all pieces are forged. Thats when you get a quality, high end wheel that can withstand more than the regular stamped/welded wheels.
On top of the forgings, on our wheels, we also do a T6 heat treatment. It is a double heat treatment in between the manufacturing process that strengthens and ages the aluminum even further. So we use Forgings which is much stronger than regular raw aluminum that you see parts like brackets, etc. are made of. So with a combination of a forged aluminum piece with a double heat treatment process to go with it. It creates a strong wheel that is durable for many uses without sacrificing the weight.

All racing wheels are not made the same. There is a misconception that all drag wheels are made similarly and since they are light, that they are weak.

That's exactly how I drive it, there is a high risk everywhere I go with that car, and a lot of money at stake. I just treat it like any old car and do my best not to think about it. It seems like the more you stress over it, the more that happens to it.
Problem isn't paying for a damaged wheel, its getting the companies to stand behind their products and offer replacement parts. With most of these drag specific parts, it was hard enough getting the originals, getting a replacement part is next to impossible.

Re: 3 peice front end with radials?
I run an m&h street and strip 245 60 15 on an rpf1 and there is literally no room I think id have to use like a 3 inch wheel spacer for it to actually clear everything thats why I was curious about the 275. What wheels are you guys using?
