Default 17.0's

Alright guys, i have a JDM d15b with bolt on mods and such in a 92 civic 4 door, but for some reason i cant come out of 17's. My best time was 17.0 flat, my reaction time is .050-.090 most of the time when it ranges. and when i got a .050 my 1/2 mile time was in the 18's. now i know my engines not fast, but can i atleast bring it into the 16's by next race season? what am i doing wrong?

If you can drop even .1 or .2 off your 60ft times 16's are definitely possible. Practicing launching from different RPM's to see what works best with your setup. Even on crappy street tires 2.3-2.4 60ft's are possible. Remember about ever tenth off your 60ft could be two to three tenths off your ET.

Reaction time has nothing to do with the 1/4 mile time.

Here's why you're getting the 1/4 mile times you have.
1. You have a D15B that is pretty much stock, just bolt ons.
2. EG 4 door, not the lightest car around.
3. 60fts arent the greatest.
4. EG sedan had those type of 1/4 mile times STOCK from the factory. And youre far from having any major modifications to lower the 1/4 mile times.

what are your rims and tires?

Especially with the smaller motors sometimes ditching heavy rims can net you a pretty decent gain.

You just need a little practice getting off the line. Also, like was said, smaller, lighter wheels will help your underpowered engine a lot. You could slap some DOT slicks on some HX's and drop that 60' considerably. Swap in a cheap EX/Si tranny and your looking low 16's. Imagine your post asking, "What can I do now to get into the 15's?"

Get some gearing!

96 DX hatch, no back seat, spare, or rear interior panels. 2,340lbs me in it and 1/4 tank (this is with CRV steelies).

Stock Y7, no exhaust, Action 1MS clutch and Fidanza flywheel, new Azenis
17.339 @ 76.63
2.511 60'
1/8 - 11.035 @ 63.18

Stock Z6, SMSP big tube header (built for a 1.7l), Action 1MD clutch, EX trans, MFactory gear set using 1.259 4th gear. bald and cracked Azenis, full interior with spare.
60' - 2.418
1/8 - 10.240 @ 68.05
1/4 - 16.029 @ 84.88

No exhaust with this run. Didn't have a donut gasket. No exhaust killed the midrange as this is a big *** header for a stock D. Threw a CEL enroute to the strip and VTEC was not working. Don't know the specs of the Z6 primaries, but the butt dyno said it had a little less power than my Y7 did.

Best 60' I ever got was a 2.316. This was with the same setup first listed with the following changes: 4.71 FD, Omnipower CMC, full interior minus spare.

i ran 16.0 with my d15 in a 92 4 door. with only a filter and intake tube, ultraflow, and no catalytic converter. on some stock 13 inch rims. to be honest i think the mod that made the most difference then was taking out the cat-converter. and stock ecu. no header or cam, or headwork, stock d15 trans, and stock clutch. its possible just keep on practicing driving.

damn my 4 door weighed 2440 at palmdale's scales. seemed pretty damn heavy to me! when i cut the holy hell out of it and went with a fuel cell it still weighed in at 2150. with 1 gal fuel cell, lexan, except for the windshield, all doors cut out, rear floor cut and sheet metaled, one seat, gutted dash, on vx's and Bogarts. not the lightest chassis..... but still fun, and it ran 12.0's untuned with an H22 making only 201 hp! so to the OP, keep on practicing driving and you'll lower those times, the 60' especially will net you better et's. not sure if you would want to but a little 50 shot of nitrous would really be fun, and its safe. i squeezed a 50 shot all the time. even getting on the freeway onramp! went from 16.0 to 14.3 with a 50 shot on a stock d15b. street tire.
