Default is a d16 zc brown top... vtec

i was wondering if a d16 zc brown top is vtec and if not isthe vtec just in the heads im kinda new with all of this stuff so sorry if i sound stupid

I would tell you to search, but I know "ZC" isn't searchable because it's only two characters long.

But no, a brown top shouldn't be vtec. You are correct that the vtec is only 'in' the head.

The best way to find vtec on a car is to look for the vtec solenoid, on a single cam its behind the head on the distributor side, and on dual cams it on the right side of the head infront of the distributor.

ok thanks for everything does anyone know if you can interchange the head from a certain vtec engine to make it vtec

a stock zc doesnt have vtec but is unique and people swap them bc they are the cheapest dual cam honda motors...also vtec is in the head thats y people just throw vtec heads on ls (b18a and b18b) motors.

B18B or B18A block, B18C head. Non-vtec to vtec.

D15 to D16 (can't remember which) head. Non-vtec to vtec.


Honestly, vtec is over-rated. Boost is the key to getting the most power after 4000 rpm's.

no brown top and black top zc/ d16a1's didn't have Vtec
