crx convertable?
Read the whole thing it explains perfectly the dealer chopped the top not the factory. So sure its true there are several companies out there today that can still do it you just have to stiffen the frame(sounds easy but its not)and have the money. always heard rumors of a factory crx convert but it never happened. no the del sol doesnt count in my book.

Yes its true and legit! Its made from a company called Strawman Co. They were sub-contracted out by Honda as a dealer and made to convertables from the factory. They are very rare and hard to find in good condition and very collectable. There is no other companys or kits that make them that I know of, just Strawman Co. They only did the gen 1 CR-X and not the 88-91 body style. Well worth the price! Id buy it if i didnt have so many projects... Plus its close by my house to...

Yes it is true, it was a factory option and everything was covered under the factory warrenty. on top of the price of the car it was a 4,995.00 option, it was contracted by Honda to R. Straman company and there were 310 made from 85-87.
The car is much more ridged then the standard hardtop crx and is built vary well. Most of the convertible cars sold in the 80's were conversions such as the Celica, trans am, Ferrari, bentley, ext. This was a common practice by the car manufactures as there was little market for convertibles to be made on a mass quantity, this was more economical. Most ignorant car enthusiast will bash on them at first site and call the hack jobs but they had to meet Honda's standard of quality and all safety standard of the time they were built. Richard Straman did not take it uppon himself to do this but rather Honda Motor Co. came to him to ask him to do this as he was the about the best one out there doing conversion at that time.
I have to say the look of a crx convertible is an aquired taste and I'm not a big fan of it with the top up but with the top down I love it.
Mine is 21 years old with 175,000 miles on it and does not have a stress crack or any sign of stress for that matter anywhere on the car.

Here is a link to some pictures of other Straman crx's I have collected in my resurch.

Some Ferrari's models are not convertible from the factory and are converted by Straman such as this one and are considered rare and vary pricey and saute after by collertors.

I agree...The top on these is not a thing of beauty.
It does the job but doesn't add alot to the look of the car.
But when you are starting with a car that was never intended to be a 'vert, you have to make some compromises.
I usually don't take mine car out unless IT IS top-down weather.
I couldn't imagine this being my only car.

I am a little annoyed that these cars have never been in Honda-Tuning, these are probably the rarest Honda's out there and definitely worth being featured.
Porps for owning such a cool car!!!
