Default '86 CRX HF, woot woot

Hey I have the chance to purchase an '86 CRX HF from an instructor from my school. The previous mechanic to work on it screwed the woman over and the engine blew up a few thousand miles later. (He swapped the exhaust and intake valves and left no clearance on one side so it finally blew, surprised it lasted as long as it did.) The auto teacher at my school is now rebuilding it for her and it should be good to go shortly. Looks 100% stock and I'm 99.9% sure it is, 157,000 miles on it and the tranny shifts perfectly smooth (butter-like).

Basically the question is: I want to buy it and part it out. What are the transmissions worth? Any parts worth anything? Whats the car worth? Very little rust (about half a finger width going around the rim of the rear wheel wells. Easily fixable as it doesn't look deep either.

Tech question:

I may keep the transmission and would like to know if it would mate up to my spare D-series engine. Yes or no?

What's the engine code?

Why would you buy it just to part it out? Those are great cars with amazing mpg

I'm an *******. According to the teacher fixing it right now, the lady is really nice and single with kids and broke as **** now. Meh, if I can make someone happy and maybe make a few bucks off it too then sure, why the **** not?

I may just keep the tranny if I want but like I asked I the first post:

Does that tranny mate to d-series engines correctly? Anything worth while on them other than optional parts/bs? What's the tranny worth?

Yeah don't part that out...you can easily resell it as is to someone who would appreciate the rare 1st gen HF then buy yourself a rolling chassis to do whatever with.

Well what is it worth? I can't find any anywhere to kind of compare. I don't even know how much to offer. I'm going back to the auto shop (class) to borrow some stuff from the teacher today and he'd appreciate any information I can attain

Yes, I started working on my cars before that too. That was when I got my first VX ('03). All the information I ever received was from my own trial and error or talking to someone in person at a meet.

If you were closer, I'd buy that from you for maybe 900 dollars if the motor really is bad.
And apparently Honda's EW motors were just renamed D15's around 87, so looks like the transmission will fit D series engines

dude that car is not worth that much maybe 1500 with you also shelling out 50 bucks for a smog. THe trans is not worth that much either. YOu might be able to get 150 for the trans but it's a tough sell.

Yeah, but If I can buy it for say $700. Buy it, register non-op. Part it out like a mad man and then scrap the rest to a junkyard. Maybe get my money back on it. Lol

Honestly I'll probably just end up getting a honda ruckus and dick around for a few months.

Its transmission will only bolt to 84-87 civic/crx engines, but not to ANY of the 88+ d-series engines. And frankly, there really isn't that much demand for the parts because there aren't many 1g/3g HFs still running. Search for them on craigslist and you'll see that what I'm telling you is true. You'll also find out that most 1g/3g onwers (myself included) are a bunch of cheap bastards, so don't waste time thinking that you will sell those parts for top dollar. You won't.

p.s. Pretty much NOTHING on thar car will fit on 88+ Civics except maybe the lug nuts. Just an FYI.

2x and myself included, not cheap, but frugal.....

If it passes smog, and in decent shape, it is worth $1500.
Remove $100 for ea body panel damage, another $100 for no A/C, $100 for crappy rims and another $100 for old tires.
add $100 for good tires, and $200 for outstanding paint job for this vintage.

Being in so cal... there is probably not too much demand, as said check CL for the list and see how many are still for sale after the weekend.

Don't forget redpepperracing.com for those 1g crx/3g hatch
