Default 85 CRX Si Fuel Pump HELP

Where exactly is the fuel pump
I think its my problem so i need to remove it
The problem is i herd i have to drop the gas tank to get to it....
and the rods that support the straps holding the tank is rusted to SH*T
is there any way to get to it without dropping the tank??

Unless you guys think its a different problem...
**Problem**
Engine turns
almost starts but doesnt
I can spray a light mist of fuel into the carb and it will start and if i keep spraying lightly it keeps running but once i stop spraying it dies....
I know its not good to do this but I need to test it some how

I think the pump has gone bad from sitting around so long
and the fuel is also old.....

PLEASE I NEED HELP
ANY WOULD BE APPRECIATED
Thanks

If your 85 is an Si (you said carburetor at one point that confuses me) then the fuel pump will be above a plastic debris shield above the front half of the driver side trailing arm. (In front, and slightly right, of the driver side rear wheel.) One thing great about these cars is that if you don't HEAR the fuel pump, then it is bad, or it is not getting power. One of the reasons its so loud is that its not in the tank. In the most quiet place available to you, sit in the driver's seat with the door open and turn the key from off to run (#2). While the pgm-fi light is lit during self-test, that electric motor you hear is your fuel pump. If your car is carbureted, I believe the pump will be in-tank. Either way, old fuel sucks. How long has it been sitting?

its been sitting around for about 2 years now with out being started if not longer...
It is an SI so it is out of the tank then
To replace the pump do i still have to drop the tank??
because i found the debris shield and there are a few wires that stick out..
but I would love it if i could get an explanation to remove the pump...
Thanks

Hi Washer nozzle, how are you? When I replaced my fuel pump on my 86 Civic SI I didn't have to drop the tank unless you want to and flush it out too. My car sat for more than a year too when I bought it as a none running car. I replaced a lot of parts to get it to run. Where exactly are you in ATL?

Washer nozzle, have you changed out the fuel filter, spark plugs, plug wires? It could be your computer too if it is an SI. I had to changed out the computer on my car too w/ the wires, plugs, dist. cap, rotor button, changed out the fast idle to get my car running right.

1. get the rear in the air and on jackstands. 2. remove driver's rear wheel. 3. remove the debris shield. 4. disconnect the wires and fittings, and remove the pump.
*there is a fuel drain bolt on the lower driver rear of the tank to get that nasty fuel out.
(wanna sell it?)
