Default 84 GL Acceleration Issues

So I got my car on the road, Passed Safety test and everything, I'm just having an issue now with VERY poor accereration... It's just really annoying, and doesn't feel right... It's a bone stock EW2 engine, Manual Tarans, but seems to have NO PICK UP... my '92, and '93 would've DESTROYED this car, nd the 92 was a bone stock D15 AUTOMATIC! This has less KM than they both did... there's only 124,000K's on it. My 93 had 350K.. I've changed plugs, wires, the cap and rotor WILL be changed soon as well... I know there's a valve cover gasket leak, and I will be changing it, I wonder if maybe oil is leaking onto the timing belt, causing it to slip? or maybe it too just needs to be replaced?

The car will rev, and RPM's will go up quite a bit, but has NO GO... like there's something holding it back... Any thoughts?

Shifting fine, clutch seems fine, could it possibly be the transmission? maybe not going into gear fully? although it sounds normal, and no grinding or anything.. to my knowledge acting normal (aside from the lack of power...)

I also do realize this is a different engine than my last 2, but it's still a 1.5L sohc.. so it souldn't really be that different should it?

Sorry for the rambling...

Cheers,
DJ

May be the timing is off.... not enough advance?

The fuel filter(s) could be plugged not giving enough gas to the carb? But if you drive at high rpm for a few miles the engine should start to die due to fuel starvation.

took the top cover off the timing belt, no oil seems to be getting in there, so that's good. BUT.. the belt itself is FKD. it's all cracked, and streatched.. I knew the timing was a bit off, and I have ordered the belt kit, with the water pump cause i may as well do it all while i'm in there.. as I heard the new belt on an old pump is just going to put too much strain on it,and it'll give out soon also. So I think with the belt, pump, changing the alternator belt as well, plus I plan to do the cap and rotor, as well as plugs wires, and valve cover gasket... this all will fix this issue.. I assume it will. If not... who knows..

cheers.
