1984 civic cold start problem
It turns over but does not fire--not even a sputter. After a long time turning over--long enough to worry about wearing down the battery--suddenly it fires right up as if nothing were wrong. Fuel pump is delivering fuel and filter is new. After it starts, it starts up fine until the engine is once again cold. The last time, I removed # 1 plug wire and set it up to see ifi I could observe spark (from the drivers seat) and it started up instead. It seems to me that some control is causing this because of the radical change from no response to perfect starting. I was hoping that this would be an easy one for you guys?
Next day: Today the car started up no problem. Since yesterday I replaced the plugs--only one of which looked worn--the other three looked new. And I poked around in the area of the igniter coil. I wqonder if I did somethoing there or if it is a coincidence? Still like to hear from anyone familiar with this type of problem.
