I hooked up a switch to my fan so that it can constantly run. The thing is that the wires melt, I even wrapped some electrical tape around it but it still burns/melts through. I was wondering is it because I am using a small switch? Any help would be appreciated.

 

Sounds to me like the wire you are using is too small of a guage.
