Will This AMP power this SUB efficiently...?
I work for Radioshack and can get a great deal on these components:
http://www.pioneerelectronics....onent

Pioneer Ported Box with 12" 400watt sub (TS-WX121)
and
Pioneer GM-X374 400watt 4ch amplifier
http://www.pioneerelectronics....onent

I was thinking just using the amp just for the sub and bridging it
...but might use the amp for the fronts and the sub.
What do you think?

What do you think?</TD></TR></TABLE> First you can't bridge a 4ch amp into a monoblock, [ one channel] so just useing it just for the sub would leave you with 2 unused so the best would be 2 channels to run the front speakers , [high-pass] and bridge the other two for the sub, that said, you will only have 100watts for the sub, [looking at the specs, that looks more like 70 watts ] although that will work, it is a little low for sub bass, [takes a fair amount of power, (watts) to make good sub bass. One more thing, in its bridged mode, the amp is not stable below 4OHMs and I did not see the imp. speck for the sub, but I would think its a 4OHM SVC.
They say........
1- Golden ratio.... 3 times the watts for sub bass as the rest of the system
2- A truism...... you are better off to be overpowered then underpowered

Can you hurt anything by underpowering?
How about this amp? (I'm plenty used to hooking this stuff up, but not really sure on how to pick stuff out)

</TD></TR></TABLE>Yes, its a lot easier to blow a speaker when you are underpowered, its hard to hear the amp "clipping", very hard an sub bass, that said, putting all 400 watts of power into a 100 watt speaker will also blow the speaker, but when you overpower a speaker you know it right away, [over excution] but you can turn gain on amp down

</TD></TR></TABLE> Again, only stable to 4OEMs bridged and only 2ch but a much better amp for sub bass

What's that mean? only stable to 4oems bridged? and what's SVC and DVC?
thanks

Modified by DIYaccord at 1:11 PM 12/12/2004</TD></TR></TABLE>Sorry SVC= single voice coil, DVC= dual voice coil.
Only stable to 4 ohms bridged. means the amp does not like to see less then 4 ohms when it is bridged, it will overheat and can be damaged, so if you have a 4 ohm DVC sub, and the coils are wired in parallel, you end up with a 2 ohm load most amps, when you bridge them will need at least a 4 ohm load, evan though they will work with a 2 ohm load in the 2ch mode, and both the amps you show are not stable at 2 ohms when bridged.
