The best way as far as I know is to put a box right behind the rear seats facing the back of the car. Will give you an additional boost of 1.5-3dB at 40-60Hz depending on the trunk volume. You can also get an SPL meter from radioshack (approx. $50) and experiment.

Why would you need a sheet of MDF to seperate the trunk from the car? Don't the back seats do a good enough job doing that?

prevents cancellation - if you seal the subs into the cabin from the trunk, then this setup can work well - I had it in my M3 and it sounded good - it would be easier in a civic b/c of it's thin seats, lack of leather, and perforated metal backs.

would you say it would be better then just facing the speaker backwards?

For my car personally, i faced it toward the back of the car because when it was facing toward the rear seat, it was causing vibration against the strut bar or some other metal piece that vibrated when the volume got turned up.

Bad part was I didn't have speaker grills so the subs got poked really quick.

depends on the individual car....probably get more ouput and lower output when you fire it backward...

yeah, there are alot of variables to this neverending question, the best way is to see what works best in your particular vehicle/situation

I would put it as far back in the trunk as possible and have the speakers facing the trunk. You gotta give that bass some room.

For a high output setup you would want to build the wall.. but for what you are doing your probably going to be better facing them backwards..

sealed enclosures are mainly for sound quality.. if you are looking to have them loud at all you should invest in a ported box.. just make sure you don't get one from best buy.. and if you let a buddy build you one make sure he knows how to do the math to tune the box correctly..

PS.. those rad shak SPL meters are for girly systems they max out at like 135 or 140
