Default What are these for?

I just ordered some Infinity 3012cf for 30 bucks to replace my blown Camry speakers and I'm also new to this car audio stuff. I got them with these capacitor things inside and I don't know what they're used for:

Thanks!

They're bipolar capacitors, used if you have a mental illness.

Seriously though, they're capacitors that you would place on the positive speaker lead. They call them "bass blockers", and they do just that; filter out low frequencies that the speaker wasn't designed to handle.

Hm, so I gotta solder them on?

edit: Guess so. Do you know of a good portable solder (if there is one)? Jeez, all I wanted were some cheap speakers and get it over with.

Crimp caps or butt connectors will work just as well...

FYI - They're not mandatory for the speakers to work. The speakers will probably sound just fine without them.

BTW: Didn't your new speakers come with instructions that you could have read to see what these are for??

the ini 3012cf doesn't come with these normally-the seller must have tossed them in (very nice of them ). These limit bass frequencies below 100hz-that way those small speakers won't blow trying to play low bass notes.

Yeah, the seller didn't provide a manual for it. But crap, I bought some butt connectors and a crimp tool but don't see how they would connect . I'll just try to borrow a solder then...

Here's a pic showing how I can't figure it out haha. When I solder it, does the long capacitor stem have to be reduced to like 1/4cm or something? And if whatever, does it go on the speaker prongs or somewhere else? Thanks for answering my questions so far guys.

~_~

ever thought of adding speaker wire to each end?

o_O

--------------------

++++Speaker Wire++++(CAP)++++(Speaker)
--------------------------------------------(Speaker)

make sure you TIGHTLY wrap electrical tape around any exposed wire/metal that is carrying signal...

read the [how-to] Car Security - for some basic how-to wire stuff up.
