what are some good components?
im in the market for some components and coaxials for my integra. ive only run mb quarts in the past and would like to try something new. any suggestions? looking to spend 200-400 on components... coaxials 200.
i ran some quart reference premiums 6.5s in my accord for about a year, then switched to alpine type x, the alpine has great midrange but no high end, the quarts were way too bright. i currently run diamond audio m6 components and am extremely happy with them. 3 year warranty, magnesium/titanium midrange, and the loudest components ive ever owned. i run a single alpine V12 mrv-t407 2 channel on the m6 components and diamond audio M3 6x9s, its the least amount of money ive spent on speakers so far and it blows away all my other speaker systems. if you want the best value (and who doesnt???) i cant say enough about diamond audio.
krystal, nakamichi, oz audio, jl audio, image dynamics and alpine all make nice component and coas. i've used nak and oz alot and love them. another idea is orion. the xtreme series is nice and has awesome sound for the money.
dont bother with the alpines, didnt impress me much, i havent heard anything under $600 that comes close to my M6 components at $399 (and thats full retail price) give them at least 50 watts RMS of good clean power and you wont be disappointed. i cant wait to get my diamond amp on my speakers (diamond d5600.4) to see what these things can really do.
I really like the sound of my JL Audio XR 525CSi 5.25" comps (made in Germany). You can get them on eBay for around $220. I am powering them with a MTX 342 amp (60Wrmsx2) with an Alpine 9835 as the signal source.
The sound is balanced (not too harsh, not to dull). The relatively large crossover allows you to individually adjust the tweeter and midrange outputs to your liking.
I previously had a set of MB Quart Q-series and found the tweeter to be a little too bright for my tastes (I was even using the -6db connection on the crossover).

Go with the JL Audio XR Series Componets.. Run with an Amp and Hear the qaulity.. We sell a crap load of them here at my Store. I also do like the Alpine SPX's and the Type R's are one of the Best Componets for the price.. I just did a S2K the other day with a set of Type R's and a Small Alpine amp off the stock Radio and the car jammed..
But I would have to go with the JL XR's for one of the best quality.. I mean even for 600 bucks you could get the JL XR 3 Way's and get a real sweet sounding from Stage..

Really, it's impossible to recommend anything.
As of now, we have no clue what the rest of the system is going to be. Do you have a headunit, and amp, what are they?
Do you have a sub yet? If not - dump the whole idea of rear speakers and invest some money there - it will be well worth it.
We can throw out $400 comp sets all day long, but without more info, it's impossible to know if we are sending you in the right direction
At that price point, there's a lot out there, but I think a lot of it is garbage too....the best recomendation is to go out and listen for yourself.
Out of a few names mentioned:
JL - heard both good and bad
MB - I wouldn't touch anything below the Q or QSD line
Diamond - Never been impressed
Boston - They make some nice sets
Alpine - Not very familiar with them
But in the end, I think it's more important to look at this as a "system" and not to recommend just speakers blindly.

all i have right now is the alpine iva-d300. need amp and speakers.
dont really want subs at the moment. just want nice clean sound.
would spend about 1100 for components, coaxials, and amp. realistic?

My ears are still ringing from the Harshness the Focal Tweeters unleashed upon them while hearing glass break in a car that we did a nice Video setup in..
For 1100.00
JL XR 3-Way
JL Audio 300/2
Sounds very smooth and nice Midbass with a 3-Way..
