I've had Sony, Rockford Fosgate, and Pioneer. I just recently got an Alpine-9833, best purchase i ever made, and it changes like 500 colours, but overall, it has amazing sound quality, really user friendly, and i would reccomend it

eh ??? i've been using the same two vac tube amps at home since 1978, with never a single problem. with the addition of 3 more about 3 years ago. i've never heard that before.

my car stuff has been flawless the whole time also.

First off McIntosh is probably one of the most reliable home audio.(HAND-BUILT)
Pioneer and Alpine are 2 of the best value decks . I have had both.

Someone said Denon. Where the hell can i find s ome info on Denon car audio? I deal with their home stuff all the time and have never heard of a car department.

You won't find out much - they must now be imported.

The last place that I knew of that was importing Denon car audion was http://www.redmountainaudio.com (IIRC)

I actually know someone selling a mint R1 right now...

I think there are about two Denon DCT-100R's in the states, and only a handfull of Z1's and R1's.

The only other "denon's" that you will find are those that were rebadged by Rockford Fosgate. The A1N was slightly re-aranged (faceplate, logo, etc) to produce the RF8250 or 8250ti. There is also an 8240, but I can't remember for the life of me what the differences are.

Sounddomain and RF cleared these out at stupid low prices - if all you wanted was a transport this was the place to be 6 months ago. There is actually a VERY small hand full - and I mean VERY - of Denons that were rebadged for Phoenix Gold - but I only know of one.

So that's about all I can give you on Denon's current offering. I know someone who could facilitate an import - but be prepared to pay - and pay BIG!

Eclipse all the way. A little expensive and dont have as many cool gadgets and colors, but sq is amazing. Don't forget it helps to be running good speakers as well.

too much brand loyalty... and i'll bet that a lot of people could buy something better than an Alpine/Eclipse/Pioneer for not much more than some of the models listed.

BTW, my business is based on knowing whats inside every single piece of car audio equipment ever made.

You've caught my attention.

What other headunits would you put in the same league for around the same price? I can think of perhaps Nakamichi and Clarion, but aside from that, what else? I was recommending easier units with decent tuning capability - I think I covered the best of them.

Also - I'm intrigued that you have had the experience to analyze the internal hardware of many headunits. We need more people to do that! We need people to come up with a service manual, schematics, and the like so that people like me can perform some mods eh...

What I know is: I can't afford F1, P9, sony 4000; so I picked up an Eclipse cd8053 for $300 on clearance at Good Guys (Deal is gone)... Maybe down the line I'll drop some more money on a nicer setup, but for now I'm focusing more on the install.

That is by far the best bang for the buck out there if you are into SQ. I was SOOO close to getting it at $450 or so and even then it's a good buy. Unfortunately, I needed 4 way active, with a low high pass crossover point (at the time) so it just didn't fit.

Yes, I knew I got a good deal on that. I'll be using the balanced outputs as well; I think all analog transmission should be balanced.

I see you use PPI Art series: I'm selling a PPI Art Ax400 soon (Cosmetic: 6/10, fully-functional). I'll be posting a FS thread on ElitecarAudio.com within 2 days. The original buyer backed out

My sony I got 1 yr ago, has trouble locating tracks, but for the price my system is pretty good.

500 canadian for 2 ppi 10" subs in a ported box($75) Sony HU $150 sony xplod amp "800" watt monochannel $200

I don't know much about the subs but they really pound hard and for the price everything is pretty loud and clear.
