currently, i am running one alpine type-r 12" pushed by bridged second 2 channels of an alpine pdx 4.150. it sound phenominal; very tight and deep, however, i am curious exactly what i can expect if i change from my 1.0' sealed box to this http://www.crutchfield.com/S-s...712SS
i figured since i'm on the lower end of wattage for this woofer (despite a superior quality amplifier), i might gain some efficiency using the ported box and it'd be alot more 'boomy', but i've not played with this stuff in a long time so i don't know what's what anymore.

Yes, you can expect a more efficient and "boomy" system if you switch to a vented box.
In the proper "optimum" vented box the F3 point will drop from 51Hz to 33Hz and that definitely qualifies as "more boomy".
Keep in mind when installing a sub in a sealed box a box volume 10% +/- will make no noticeable differance, however a 10% volume diff. in a vented box will be noticeable but more importent is the volume of the vent.
The box you link is 1.75cuft gross, optimum vented box fro the Type R is 1.7cuft gross, not a big deal. the .05cuft differance can be "made up" by installing bracing inside the box, an added benefit is bracing will also increase SQ.
Dealing with vent volume will be a bigger issue and not as easily addressed.
All the above assumes that the 1.75cuft gross volume of the linked box includes the vent and that the Type R is the DVC 2 ohm.
Also, yes you are underpowered by 200W, also not a big deal as long as you do not drive the amp into constant clipping.
