what do all the channels on a hu do?
Each channel drives a speaker, so a 2 ch. will drive a left and right speaker, [front]
a 4 ch. will drive the left and right fronts and a set of rears, [left and right] and with the 4 ch. you can fade between the front and rear speakers.

Your tweeters and woofers are seperate. They're connected by a crossover that divides the frequency sending the highs to the tweeter and the mids and lows to the woofer. At my work they always disconnect the tweeter and replace the woofer with a two way speaker. Unless of course they want to buy replacement components.

Probably not an actual crossover... More likely a capacitor inline to filter out the lows going to the tweeter.... But same idea...

Connect the Metra adpt. harness to the HUs wiring harness, it should be color for color, if you get a "true" "high power" HU, [more then 15W RMS per ch.] you will not use the constant power, [yellow] on the Metra adpt. harness, [just yank it out of the plug] you are going to need more power, [amps] so you are going to have to run a 12ga or 10ga fused power wire from the batt. so the HUs internal amp gets enough current, [amps] as it needs more then the oem constant power can supply.

last time you said i did not need an install kit, that most aftermarket hu's will fit in the stock location. you said the only thing was that attaching that little box underneath the stock radio to the new hu needed minor modification of brackets. so do i or dont i need an install kit? thanks.
and also when running the 10 or 12 gauge power cable how do i go about doing that? sorry for so many questions, im just super interested in this stuff.

If you are going to use the stock pocket, no you will not need a kit, you will have to do the custom brackets to mount the HU to the pocket, [solidly] and mount both using the back brace support on the HU to the oem rear support brace.
