I need to use diodes in my alarm install but in the stickies, it doesn't say what exact kind, just 1-3amp. I'm assuming I want diodes rated for 12V? I'm having trouble finding ones rated for 12V.
Yeah, 12 volt diodes, I just got a bunch of 1 amp diodes, DEI makes some.
I could not find any through stores and dealers and such, so I eBay'd 12 1 amp DEI diodes for about $4.50 shipped. Radio Shack sells diodes, but probably $0.99 each or something.

You wont find 12V diodes, most are rated for 100V or so.
1004 I believe is the general purposed diode from radio shack.
The high voltage rating is the point at which the diode will break down and allow current to flow in the opposite direction. Meaning you fine to use it for voltages below 100V.

A car should really never need something above 50 volts, which is the most a 1N4001 can carry. Even at radioshack its $2.79 for a 25-pak. They are 1 amp, but grouping multiples will split the amperage just like any other electrical part.
I'm almost thinking about getting some of the 6 amp diodes, RS has them for $2.49 for 4. Its cheaper than adding another relay to get my rear defogger working with remote start.
