Default Volume problems with Alpine deck.

I've had this deck for a few years and it's been in three cars of mine. Over the past couple of weeks I've been having this quite sporadic and random problem. Sometimes when I get back into my car and my deck turns on, there wont be any sound coming from any of the four speakers. Not even static. Whether it's on tuner or playing a cd. No matter how loud I turn it up, nothing. But then sometimes it'll just randomly turn back on. All the speaker/ground/power wires are soldered and shrink wrapped and all have good connections.

What the hell could be the problems.

Edit: The deck is an Alpine CDA-9847

Ditto the above^^^

It sure sounds like the HUs internal amp protection mode is on, [amp turns off because of a short on one or more of the speaker leads.

The most common problem I see is if aftermarket speakers are used, the speaker terminals can make contact with the doors sheet metal and short out, this is also most often an intermittent problem, getting progressively worse, pull the door speakers and insure the speaker terminals can not contact the doors sheet metal when installed. 94
