Hey does anyone have 6 1/2" Alpine Type R 2way speakers, if so i think mine are lil messed up. Are they suppose to sound very muffled / no treble when my receiver is on max treble almost like the tweeters are shot (brand new). If people have them they know that there is a crossover kit , but i also have type S and they dont have crossover kit and sound great but have low RMS. I bought the R's thinking they would sound louder, clearer and more bass punch but they sound very crappy, DOES anyone know why they sound like this?

They are only amplified by my old kenwood head unit, 99 model it has 35 watts X 4 . But like I said my Type S sound nice and clear . my previous rear 6.5 speakers were infinities, but they dried out and craked so i replaced them with expensive $$$$ type R's i guess i may need an Alpine unit to pump them.
the way my car was wired, the stock 6.5's we're crossed over from the factory so they only played low notes, which is really what they're for anyways. get some good tweeters for your highs, and keep those 6.5's, and you'll have a nice sounding front stage.
its sorta like if you hear high end tweeters without any mid bass speakers, they'll sound like crap and will probly hurt your ears. but pair them up with some good 6.5's, and it'll sound great.

That's your problem right there. Your Kenwood deck is only pushing out about 8-12 watts rms x 4. The Type R's need more power than the Type S. That's why the Type S sounded better. You have to match the speakers rms ratings with the correct rms wattage.
