too much power?
hello everyone. i am new to this site. i am on here because i am working on my roommate's 99 civic sedan. he has a kenwood cd player, a jvc 900 watt amp pushing two comp vr 10s. i recently installed a 1 farad capacitor in too. he also has infinity reference 6.5s in the front. when he turns up his volume his subs will turn off or obviously make the lights dim. now my question is, is there something with the size of the original battery where it cannot take the power it is trying to from the subs? or do you think it is his amp or headunit?
i have the original battery in my 05 corolla s. i have an eclipse headunit, with ipod interface, a phoenix gold R5 pushing my infinity kappa component sets and a phoenix gold R8 pushing my two mtx thunder 5500 12s. i have a rockford fosgate half farod capacitor. my lights hardly blink if ever and it never cuts out.
so this is why i am confused. i have more power being drained and not as many problems.

Sounds like a 10 awg wire to me, maybe an 8. You know how people try to save dough by buying the small amp kit or what not. I've seen people say I got 8 awg wire but its home grade wiring with like 10 strands of wire in it. Make sure that he has the proper wire, ground, and connections. IMO a cap only is a temporary fix and that you should upgrade the wiring from the battery to the alternator, the battery ground to the chassis and the wire back to the amp.

It's not even a temporary fix, that's not its intended purpose.

Need more info...
1 - Model of Kenwood HU?
2 - Model of JVC amp?
3 - Model of the Infinity Reference 6.5"?
4 - What's driving the Infinitys?
5 - As mentioned, what gage power and ground cable for JVC amp.
6 - What kind of fuse and fuse holder?
7 - What kind of sub box, and what is the internal volume of the box?
8 - Are the Comp VRs new?
Answer the above and I may be able to help.

I'd be interested to know how quickly the subs cut-out....do they cut out after extended listening and the amp is hot or can you get them to cut-out when the amps are cool to the touch?
unless someone has changed the fuse and put in a lower voltage fuse you won't get any sound if it's a fuse problem because it'll be blown.
for quick test you could hook up your front speaks to the amp (unless of course you're driving these w/ the amp), turn up the volume and see if the subs cut-out or if all speakers cut-off. if everything shuts down probably an amp problem.
What kind of carpeting is used for the box?
Has your battery been re-located to the rear?
Is your amp mounted with sheet-metal screws?
Is your head-unit mounted to the dash with bailing wire and twine?
Is your amp mounted on the engine block?
What color of hair do you have?
Is the system installed in a boat or car?
Is someone temporarily stealing your sub when it cuts out?
Did you build you box out of 1" MDF or 3/4 MDF?
Are you listening to Bass Mekanik or Beat Dominator when this happens?
Is the aeroponic grow room in your trunk leaking water?
Is your HU made in Korea or China?
What color is your amp?
