Thoughts on LO-JACK?
I like the idea, but in a Teg there are really not too many hiding spots for it and that meens the people who steal your car will find it quick and disable it before the cops have a fixed location...
Since most people will either: A) break the window and take what they want or B) steal the car, strip what they want quickly and ditch it. THis means that A) Lojack is useless or B) Lojack helped find your STRIPPED car quicker.

So does it work...yes...and it works well.

Lojack or any other extra layer of security will help. The problem with Lojack (the original RF based one) is that you have to know you car is gone for it to be effective. Let's say you come home at 2am in the morning, pass out and don't wake up with 12 in the afternoon, that's 10 hours that has not been accounted for. By the time you wake up and realize your car is gone, it may be too late and the car would have been already stripped. You need to know exactly when your car is gone and report it immediately to the proper authorities for it to be effective. Also, not all police departments have the capability of tracking Lojack.
I work at a car stereo shop. Pretty much every car that comes in for a big install, we find the Lojack unit without trying.

I wish I had lo jack when my car got stolen. I was parked in front of a friends house. I was there for close to an hour. If I had paid the $700 when the dealer offered it to me when I bought the car, I would still have all my **** back AND know who the **** did it....
Anyways...I think I'm going to invests into it now

Recently someone on the ITR forum, I believe, had there car stolen while parked on the street. He found only his lojack in the spot where his car was.
I think it makes a good addition to alarms, but not a replacement.

the new lo jack has new features, you should get this one
"You carry a personal LoJack Early Warning Key Pass that sends a signal to the LoJack Early Warning Recovery System confirming that you are an authorized driver. "
so pretty much if the car move with out u in the car the system will go off and warn you.

Ive heard nothing but GOOD about Lo-Jack. Too bad its not too common around here for me to become familar with it. I dont think the Twin Cities qualifies with enough stolen cars to have the service available.
Ive had 2 customer's with close calls report to me how the CompuStar saved their ride. That's good and also bad. I'd rather hear about all the others that dont even get messed with at all. Some come to me for a CompuStar AFTER they have been broken into. They learned the hard way.
If a would-be thief approaches a car with a sign of a security system that not only makes noise, but also "pages" the owner.....he's more likely to move on to an easier target.
Any system is not a guaranteed safety for your vehicle, it just makes it harder for the theif and they will move on to an easier target.

I had a friend with lowjack installed in a civic, and his car was taken and later recovered stripped. I was w/ him and we noticed the car was stolen, after comming back to the car 3 hrs later. this was in NYC mid town manhattan right off the westside. The police later told us that the low jack isnt very effective in NYC becasue the signal get lost due to the height of the buildings, so finding the car becomes very difficult, and also it has a limited range, so if they jumped over to jersey all hope would be lost on finding the car. i wasnt sure about this, but i talked to acouple officers at the station and they said it had become a big problem for people w/ the low jack in this area, so i guess it all depends on what area u live , it could have similar effects that i was told about, just givin ya the heads up,
An angry pitbull tucked nicely in the backseat would be the best thief deterrent. Just roll the windows down a smidgen, keep it nicely fed or not (if you want him to be more vicious) and a bowl of water.
