Tape Player Keeps Flipping back and forth
I have a eg sedan ex and use my tape player for my ipod hook up. Works GREAT except for one huge problem. The tape player gets into these random fits where it just keeps flipping the tape back and forth, meanwhile pausing the music. I was just wondering if anyone had any clue how to stop this or even remove the mechanism that alows the tape player to flip the tape. HELPPP
Try a different tape adaptor if yours has the wheels that spin in it (the wheels that would normally pull the tape in a real cassette). The radio flips sides based on pressure on the drive gear, so if the cassette adaptor is sticking or has enough drag the radio will switch sides

wouldn't know anything on how to disengage that drive gear would ya? or is that possible?
You got me beat on that one lol. The only tape type device I've every ripped into was an old VCR I had to fix in electronics class back in 9th grade (years and YEARS ago)
I do agree with rjr162, kind of...
Most tape players use a set of "feelers", [thin wires] that ride against the bottom, [one on each side] of one of the take-up wheels, the wheel has contacts spaced around it so as the wheel turns contact is made and broken between the two "feelers" a circuit is monitoring that "on/off" connection and if it stops, either connected or not connected, for a predetermined time the transport reverses itself, [probably dirty contacts or "feelers" are loose so no contact is detected, transport reverses, because most cass transports only have "pick-ups" on one take-up wheel, the transport will revers itself again.
It is reparable, it requires transpor to be removed and disassembled, clean the contacts and rebend the "feelers" so they make better contact whit the contacts on the takle-up wheel.
You can also just locate the reversing solenoid and cut the power lead to it.
A better bet is to get the CD changer port adapter for your HU, and if you get the one that plugs into your iPods docking port, the SQ will improve dramatically, even the headphone jack adapter is better then a cass. adapter 94
