Default Suggest a headunit for me please

Currently have a Sony cdx gt400 that I love, but it's out of warranty and taking a **** on me (only plays on left speakers, Critchfield said it's junk by description).

Here is what I need... Sub pre outs, gotta have them. Ability to tune sub, lows mids and highs easily while driving. Ability to run four 6 1/2" unamped Infinity Reference 6022 speakers at decent quality, Im not cranking it just want to sound as good as my Sony deck did on them, considering there cheap speakers. Prefer front aux input but rear will work so I can run my iPod. Don't need anything fancy in that department.

If I could find a mirror image of my Sony for 3 bills and under I would be happy as hell. If cheaper I would really like that. I prefer Critchfield as my supplier because of the free harness and good tech support.

Appreciate any suggestions and or help. I'm too picky bout looks of players, but nothing with bulky ugly buttons or space shuttle lights and stuff. Thanks

I don't buy locally because none of the local shops carry anything I want and they can't get it and they want about twice as much as it's worth...
The shops that carry equipment that I want are unauthorized "dealers" anyway so I just order my stuff online.

exact same thing here. I buy speakers from my local dealer because he is authorized for jl and the ones i like, but no headunit brands I would go with, His prices are competitive with what he sells, just doesnt always have what i want.

After checking out that Clarion, that is exactly what i want. Ugly IMO, but one that i could deff live with and looks simple to use with easy reach buttons. I lthink im gonna go with that unless anyone has better or cheaper suggestions.

Jason, what were you thinking?

You might also look at their older models. I have one from last year and one from the year before that. The one from 07 looks awesome but it doesn't have a usb. I have a 765 and I think the 785 or something like that...

^^The Alpine suggestions I would agree with as well, but if you are looking newer, then the 9886 or 9887 are great headunits as well.

If you are concerned about budget, then I would recommend saving up a bit longer and trying to find a deal on any of the above mentioned Alpine units.

I do not know much about Alpine HU's but I do know that the more loose wires you have in the front of you car where you and any passenger you may have will be, the easier it will be to seriously mess something up. Go with front usb!

just buy a longer cable, connect it the back of the deck during install and throw in the glove box when you arent using it.
front usbs are ugly and get the wires get in the way,

But then he'll have to fiddle in the glove box and that just doesn't look as cool as having a kick-*** USB stick lighting up his dash...especially if he gets one that matches the color scheme of whatever deck he decides to get. I'm not saying that rear USB is bad or that front is better. I'm just saying that's what I prefer and that's what the OP wanted: What WE prefer so he can make an educated decision. That's all. BTW I got the email with your original post and I must say, what you said was really shitty and your editing it out was a dick move on ur part and is the whole reason I'm bitching about this topic.

I've seen this done, not a huge deal if you don't really have a ton of stuff in your glovebox. If the cable is long enough then it can be easily accessible as well.

True, true. But don't you have to buy those separately? Just sayin'.

Actually, now that I think about it...rear usb WOULD be more convenient and I'm starting to wonder why I didn't go that route...oh, right. B/c I wanted the cheapest HU I could find...lol.

yes you would have to buy them separetely, but not many people run more then 1, every time i have seen it, its 1 or the other. these days almost every person has a ipod, so you can guess which one sells more.
it could be, it basicly all a mater of opinon or persons choice, personaly i hate decks with any sort of plug on the front, i just think it makes them ugly, i would rather have it hidden and clean looking....
i would have most likely just grabbed something cheep, but my father decided to suprise with a new deck, because he hated my old one lol
and lets face alpine decks, arent really all that cheap.
