Default Subwoofer Options..

Well I tend to upgrade my entire stock system soon. I need some opinions picking subwoofer. I'm a really hardcore JL Audio subwoofer fan. I was planning on getting a 12" JL Audio W7. But the price is really high. Some others I've been thinking about are 12" Alpine Type-X, 12" MTX 9500. But from what I've been told the Alpine was below the JL, and the MTX is below the Type-X. I have also thought about IDMax Image Dynamic 12". I'm looking for something really clean, crisp, accurate, deep, loud like the W7. I have looked at RE-XXX but there price is insanely high. What are some other choices I have? It'll be a sealed enclosure for sure, running around 1000wrms. Budget is probably roughly $300-maybe up to $400. Also I have had a 12" JL Audio W6V2-D4 befor. It was nice, but I'm looking to try something new.

How many subs are you planning on? I am a huge JL fanatic as well so I would say that some W3's or W0's would be a good idea. Go with what is going to address your musical needs.

SoundSplinter RLp
Elemental Designs Ov.2
Just to name a couple of others.
If price is no issue RE XXX is up there. But from what im hearing on other forums is they jacked up the price to something crazy.
Good Luck with this choice, make sure u check into a lot of options and choose it accordingly.

Also check out http://www.realmofexcursion.com just to see a couple of vids of ur possible choices.

I'm looking for 1 single subwoofer in a sealed box. Either a 10" or 12", more towards 12".

JL Audio W3's are W0's are not what I'm wanting. I listen to mostly all rap, sometimes alternative.

DD 3500's
Image Dynamics IDMAX's
Soundsplinter Rl-p's
Stereo Integrity Magnum D2's
Adire Audio Brahma's
Resonant Engineering SX's
Resonant Engineering MX's

any of those will leave you quite satisfied.

RE jacked up their prices so you can't buy them direct from them anymore so now you have to buy them at authorized dealers which means you still pay more.

EDIT: I'd try the new w3v3's

W3V3 isn't enough for me. It's only a 300wrms subwoofer. I'm looking for something around 1000wrms.

I've heard a Eclipse Titanium, they are ok but not what I'm wanting, so they are out of the question.

I went to go listen to a MTX 9500 yesterday, it was 2x12" MTX 9500 and it was hitting 150db. The setup was a SPL setup though. I don't think i'll be going for the 9500 either.

I've personally heard a 12" Eclipse Titanium, friend used to have one. He now owns a 12" W7. The W7 seems to kill it in any way possible.

How something that looks like this:

that uses somewhere around 8 patents, anywhere close in design to this:

by definition - they can't have a similar design...

yeah, the jl W7 and eclipse titanium are nothing at all alike. if i were to compare anything to the W7, it would be the Image Dynamics IDMAX or the Adire Audio Brahma.

i made my recommendations above. although i am not a real big DD fan, they are definitely performance subs and some 3500's would make for a very fun daily

I am a huge ID fan - I've owned nearly every driver they have released in the last few years - so I'd say IDMAX for your power/budget/taste.

My friend did have a IDMAX V3 12" Subwoofer. Too bad he doesn't know how to listen/control his gains/volume correctly. So he blew the subwoofer. He also blew a 12" Eclipse Titanium, 2x12" Xtant subwoofers, a few others. Not sure what's wrong with him. The stuff he has now are all under warranty though. I may go for a IDMAXV3 if I could find one. I want to out-thump my friend though, same guy, he has a JL Audio 12" W7 now in a JL Audio sealed box.

I have installed in a friends truck a 10in Eclipse. And it is very nice, just cant compare it to a W7.
Thats one of the best speakers out right now.
Nothin against Eclipse just not similar speakers in every aspect.

I've owned a w7 and the biggest regret I have is selling it. I'm now using a custom 10" with an RE motor and I am pretty satisfied with it. Sucks that JL has to overprice their stuff but now RE does not do direct selling from them so RE is pretty much overpriced now too. Probably gonna give SoundSplinter or TCSounds a shot.

Have you contacted an RE dealer? The prices didn't really change much depending on which dealership you're dealing with.
