Default SUBw00fer Break - in?

my cousin said i should "break in" my subwoofer much like an engine.
play it easy and low for a week, then u can slowly crank it?
anyone have any input/opinions on this?
i guess i just can't wait to crank my W7 and i'm lookin for an excuse.

It's more about heat during the break in period. You can crank it up, I just wouldn't do it for extended periods of time. Did you finally get your box?

my friend told me not to "hit it" and let them heat up and extend a lot at first.... I played mine at moderate volumes and my commute from my Condo to campus was about 7 miles.. my subs have been fine for years...

most subs no. but for high output ones like yours you probably want to run it at moderate volume for the first few hours, then slowly nudge it up. no, dont blip it like a new motor heh. after that you can go nuts. but ya if youre really serious there are more advanced techniques that competitors/professionals use.

it is usually recomended to break in a sub for 40 hours of playing time before you really smote on them. it is like streatching before excersising. it definately helps.

There is no real "Best" method for breaking in a sub. There are alot of different styles and techniques. Some are better for beginners and some for competitors and so on. Personally I would run it at a low moderate level for about 35 hours or more and increase the volume level every so often. If your not competing with this or anything then it is not some HUGE deal. But just do searches and see what suits YOU and the amount your in your car etc.

some subs benefit from "breaking in" more than others. take the Solobaric for example. their suspension is so damn stiff. after a bit of playing time, they loosen up and prepare to get new eyeplugs. i personally like to baby my sub when i get them. just like when you get something new..you don't want to push it so hard at first, then later on, its hell time!

I usually play my subs softly the first couple days, then move to moderate for a couple weeks, and finally, I crank it. I am not sure if it helps, because I have always broke in my subs, so I dont know what they sound like un-broken-in.
