sub and amp?
whats up guys!
i just recently bought the ALPHASONIK PSW912 subwoofer and i want to wire it at 1 ohm. im going to be using the performance teknique ICBM-781 digital monoblock amplifier.
now my question is... its going in my ej7. does the size of the box matter? im using a sealed ground shaker box.
will my amp be enough to push this speaker? will my amp blow? speaker blow?
just trying to be precautious.

most of the time when you buy a sub it will have something that says how much space is needed for it. You dont really want to make the boxx bigger or smaller than the manufacturers specs b/c it can possibly damage the sub and it will sound like ****. And how many watts is the sub rated for? How many watts can the amp push? Best thing to do would be look at the company's website.
If that sub is really 2200 RMS your amp is significantly underpowered. The amp is only 675 rms at 1ohm.
I highly doubt the sub is 2200rms, and I highly doubt the amp really puts out 675watts rms at 1ohm, but if they are even close to the real specifications, you are going to need more of an amp to run this thing to its potential, otherwise you risk blowing the sub...

those are the specs on the subs.
i have 30 of those subs in my garage.. yes 30..
my dad works for a logistics company and the customer never picked them up so my dad brought them home after 1 year of sitting in the warehouse.
from what ive read. if connected right. it blows away most subs. the sub even came with EAR PLUGS. hahaha.
what amp do you recommend? should i just not use this subwoofer?

like some one else said, subwoofer box design really depends on what the manufacturer recommends. box design, whether it's ported, sealed, etc. Box size and dimensions also affect how a subwoofer sound as well, especially if the box is too shallow, too wide, whatever. You'd be surpsrised how different one subwoofer sounds from one box design to another.
That subwoofer is a dual 2-ohm voice coils, so how you wire it up is also important depending on the amp. 2 ohm monoblock and run the voice coils in a series?

i would get like a DD M3 amp or something of equivalent power, there are alot of amps on the market that can deliver the power you need and then some at 1ohm's, most of these amps tend to be popular with the SPL crowd because when it comes to power classes, it is ideal to have amps rated at 1ohm and lower so that your 4ohm power rating is lower. Yes it does matter on the box, your asking this question so that tells me your, no offense, a newbie with audio, there is nothing wrong with that, but for your sake, i would have someone build a box- preferrably someone whom has built several, i would recommend a prefab box BUT most of those are not 3/4" mdf, and for your sub/power application you will need atleast 3/4", usually on bigger subs i will double up and have 1.5" walls in my box.
Box theory is a very in depth area of the car audio world, many do not understand it, and they usually build box's that are sealed, and practically square- which is not good and sound waves cancel out, there are a few different ways a box can be built, sealed, ported, 4th order bandpass, 6th order bandpass, and you can really mess a box up if not built right, your sub will somewhat, flutter and have no bass, this is cancellation. Here is a link, this is just an online software box calculator and will somewhat help you design a box, try it out and you should have a good "ballpark" idea of what you want to build. http://reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html

I have one of these in a groundshaker ported box with a 2600w Almani amp and it bumps!!! have it in a civic hatch, also got a RockFord Fosgate Power hx2 12 inch sub laying around thinking of throwing that in soon
That sub isn't meant for a sealed application. It doesn't hit low bass and I would not try to put rated power in it. Plus, if you had an amp that actually put out a true 2k rms, you still wouldn't get 2k unless you had upgraded your alternator, 1/0 gauge wire and at least 1 extra battery. That sub is meant for ported high tuned punchy bass. It is basically a budget SPL sub and not designed for daily bumping.
That amp will blow your sub from clipping, because you are going to have to turn it up beyond it's limits to product decent volume, the signal will clip and either the amp or sub will start heating up too much. Think of it like having a stock D16 engine and running it @ 7000 rpm for a long period of time.
