Stereo Advice
Am looking to to buy a stereo in the next couple of weeks. I have been looking at an Alpine CDA-9887 and I really it like. I was wondering if this was a good choice or other possible recommendations that have just about the same features.. I also like the pinenoors. any help would be great
I would say with them, you are taking a big risk. I read reviews on them and there are people that got their stuff but then there are others that have had hell trying to get their things...and havent. I think thats the site that people talk about the "mean lady" if they are having trouble and trying to ask too many questions. She puts you on hold numerous times and other things i cant remember.
That stereo is only $299 on ebay (free shipping) and comes with a 1 year warranty.

Does it really make that much difference who provides the 1 year warranty? Either way, the parts and repair don't cost anything. (restrictions apply, obviously) I'd rather buy it from an ebay seller with 100% feedback for $299. To each their own, I guess.

Yes. If its done through an authorized dealer it will get fixed right, they are in person, no shipping charges for you...etc. If its someone over ebay, you have the time it takes for you to ship it, them fixing it(dont know where or how good) and time to ship it back...could be waiting quite a long time. The person can say all they want about warranties but is it really that good of a 'warranty'? Most people write their comments right when they get it and if it works then they leave feedback so when they have problems, its too late to change it to negative feedback.
You are either dealing with the manufacturer that is guaranteed to fix you up right if something goes wrong, or some guy on ebay that sells out of his garage.

What are the odds that the thing will fail in less than a year? Slim. In the 16 years that I've been driving, and have been messing with car stereo's, not once have I had a head unit go **** on me in less than a year. In fact, I've never had one go **** at all. Even if it were to do so, a friend of mine owns his own shop, and can fix it for me. But like I said, I've never had a problem with a bad head unit. The only time I've personally come across bad head units, they were outdated and are no longer covered by any warranty.
The stereo I purchased online (not the model in question) is from an authorized dealer, but I highly doubt I will need them to honor the warranty. *shrug* Maybe I've just been lucky.

i should have put a disclaimer that iv gotten all my audio stuff online except for the head unit and subs. i had am amp go bad on me but i was able to repair the broken trace inside the amp and it worked fine after.
Like you said, its slim that it iwll go bad but if u are new at car audio, if u get it from an authorized dealer and have problems, they will help you out. I just have never needed any help because I usually know more about car audio than the owners of some shops around here do.

well am not worried about warranty since most of the companies wont even honor it unless it is without a doubt manufactoring defect. does anyone have any experince with this stereo? and how good is the sound quality? thanks
