Default sound deadener ?

if you were to deaden the trunk, is it really necessary to do the whole trunk to get full sound benefits (im not talking about reducing road noise), but if you had a subwoofer, would doing the whole trunk add much benefit as opposed to certain parts of the trunk, and if only parts of the trunk, which parts would be the best places to lay down the sound deadener???

if you dont want to do the entire trunk, at the very least, do the trunk lid. thats whats going to rattle the most. After you do that, crank it up and see where else the rattles are coming from and deaden as needed. you arent keeping much road noise out from the trunk, moreso just cutting down on the rattles. The back side of the license plate is also good to do

is deadening really only to reduce rattles or to make the "sound environment" better..so the musics not just hitting off the metal but it sounds better (controlling resonance or something) i wasn't talking about reducing road noise...i understand thats not the purpose of it. thanks again.

well yes...haha
The purpose is absolutely to reduce road noise. if you pull up your carpet, the car comes from the factory with a fair amount of it on the floor pan, firewall, etc. reducing road noise from the trunk is a different story
The deadener will reduce rattles, which is the most noticeable thing and it makes the music sound better by doing so. The theory behind it, as I understand, is the deadener absorbs the vibrational energy and transfers it it heat energy, hence why most are aluminum backed, to allow it to act as a heat sink. so by reducing rattles, the metal vibrates less and helps with the sound quality.
