Set up for Del Sol
Currently I have a stockhead unit pushing a set of kenwoods (doors) and pioneers (rear) and the sound is crap.
Now I have an older cd clarion 7580 headunit, 8 bazooka tube that I want to hook up and want to up grade the door and rear speakers but do not want loose the stock look of the interior.
Any recommendations on what speakers for the door and rear? Clearance might be an issue.
Should I get a 4 channel amp to power the new door and rear speakers and the bazooka tube?
Also would I be able to hear the base since del sol trunks are "sealed"?

that is fine. just wondering what set up would work and give me good sound. with and with out the top on.
i mean i can spend about $500-$600.

The Delsol uses a standard 6.5" speakers, front and rear, the fronts are limited to a 2" mounting depth, [without mods], there is a little more in the rear I believe.
There is room for an over-sized 6.5" speaker with a 3" mounting depth in most Honda/Acura front door speaker locations, [behind stock grills].
Infinity, Pioneer, Eclipse all make speakers that are a direct fit, [no mods] although with the infinity you need to use supplied mounting plates.
I recommend the Eclipse SP6500... http://www.eclipse-web.com/point/sp6500.html for the price it is very effective, It is a standard 6.5" speaker, although it needs 2.25" of mounting depth, [easy mod] and the speaker mounting holes will line up with the stock mounting holes, you can use the same screws.
The above assumes the installation of the Kenwoods in the doors did not damage the stock speaker housings.

Clarion is crap and you're not going to hear the bazooka in a Del Sol.
If I had a Del Sol (HAHAHAHA... YEAH...) I'd do like fcm and disconnect the tweeters on the rear speakers, then run them to a two channel amp with a low pass filter. Paired with some components up front and a good deck, you'd have some pretty decent sound, just not impressively loud bass.
I don't know if Alpine still does this but the deck I have has a switch on the bottom so that you can wire tweeters to the front outputs, and mids to the rear outputs, and there's a built in active crossover so you can get rid of the components passive crossover. Sounds much much better. The rears are going to be connected to your rear preouts via the 2CH amp I mentioned earlier.

thanks for the input. have to look for 6.5 with a 2 inch mounting depth. 2.25 is dont mind making a little .25 spacer.

hey my clarion is basically brand new. i had it my other before i traded it for like a few months and has been installed/used in years so it is still good to me.
please clarify what FCM means.
and i am right with saying just go with 4 quailty speakers get a good amp and forget about the bazooka in the trunk since it is sealed.?.?

Use your Clarion, get a 4ch amp, remove/disable the tweeter on the rear speakers, wire the rear speakers in series, [8 ohms, 2 ohms if they are 2 ohm speakers] wire the rears to the bridged rear channels of the amp, depending on the amp, run then HP, [high-pass] but set the x-over point as low as the speakers will go, use the other 2 channels of the amp to run the front speakers, also on HP, but set x-over no lower then 75Hz. [probably around 100HZ], turn the gains on the amp all the way down, turn volume on HU up to about 75%, set bass/treble on HU to flat, turn off any EQ or loudness buttons, adjust gain for front speakers for best possible sound/output, little by little turn up the gain for the rear speakers, listening carefully, sound should move up from the left and right speaker, [called left/right bias] more to the upper dash or hood area, imaging should improve, when sitting in the front seats you should not really be able to "hear" the rear speakers.
There are things you can do to improve bass response, [no matter what speakers you use]...
1 Dynamating, [or the like] the doors, even just a 2 speaker kit will help.
2 Replacing the stock plastic speaker housings with Custom MDF housings will make a huge diff. in bass response.
3 If your running more then 30-40 watts RMS, run 16ga speaker wiring to the speakers.
Once you see the rear speaker brackets,. you will see how cheesy they are, a speaker mounted to a MDF bracket will produce much better bass, and sound better, that goes for the fronts also.
One of the other advantages of custom MDF speaker housings, is you can make them to fit the speaker you get, meaning just about any speaker up to 7" with up to about a 3" mounting depth, [door speakers, maybe a little more room in the rear.

So you're going to want a 4CH that has a high pass that will go all the way down to 35... I can't remember ever turning a hp down that low. Do they even go that low? I'll have to take a look when I get to work.
It's better to run the rear in series at 8 ohms bridged rather than in parallel at 4 ohms? Why?
I'm going to do this in my 92 Integra eventually. But not before getting a JDM GSR motor/lsd tranny..
