Post Security help for my Civic

Hey, I wanted to know if you guys could help me out with securing my 00' Civic. I live in NJ but go to school in NY. Where I live, I leave my car parked at home (Have a garage and yard is hidden by trees) and get a ride to the train station and take the train to NY. The problem with this is that I pay about $11 one-way. Coming back from school it's sometimes $26 ($11+15 if I can't be picked up from the station and take a cab) Doing this 2-3 days per week really adds up. It would be easier for me to leave my car parked by my other sister's house and catch the train there. I would only be spending $3.50 each way.

The problem is, my sister doesn't have a driveway and I would have to park my car in the street on her block. Her neighborhood isn't the worst part of town but it's also not the best. So while I'm at school, my car will be parked in the street for almost a whole day and I want it to be as secured as possible.

I'm looking into purchasing an alarm (Viper 5002). The shop I'm taking my car to is going to charge me $279 installed but I want a stealth install. Is there anything specific that I should ask them to do for the stealth install and how much do you think would be a good price for a decent stealth install?

Also, I wanted to add a few more accessories to the alarm (back-up battery, back-up siren, tilt sensor, and glass break sensor). I do have one question though. Which would be better:

-buying a separate backup battery (DEI 520T) and backup siren (DEI 513T)
-or buying a backup battery/siren (DEI 515R)

I found all of these parts on ebay relatively cheap (I made sure they carried at least a manufacturer's warranty) and wanted to start ordering them so that I could have them by the time I take the car to have the alarm installed. The shop only has the tilt sensor in stock, everything else would have to be special ordered and would take 7-10 days to arrive. I don't want to wait since classes start on the 26th so I'd like to have the alarm in by then.

Keep in my I'm a college student (poor college student budget ftw!) so this might be the biggest purchase I can make for a while. I want to look into getting an Autolock for my clutch, a wheel boot of some sort (rolling on steelies for now), and a quick release steering wheel. Looking up the price of a quick release setup with the lock and everything it looks like it might cost between $200-300 so that's kinda the last on my list. Also I'm going to ask the shop about installing a main relay kill. Is this a good idea or should I get a different type of kill switch installed?

Sorry for such a long post, I just want to be as detailed as possible. Thanks for reading and your help.

I forgot one more thing, what do you guys think about the accessories from Asianwolf. I was wondering if they would be just as good as the DEI accessories. They're about 50% cheaper. I know I shouldn't skimp on security, I just wanted to see what you guys thought about them.

I'm planning to get a Viper 5002. The alarm and kill switch are my biggest concern right now, the Autolock, quick release, and wheel boot can come later.

First, a "true" stealth install will not be cheap, $500 and up, it would require a dash pull.

A "semi" stealth, [no dash pull] would be less, but still at least $100 more then a "normal" install, it depends on the shop.

I would definitely add a backup batt. and an extra siren and a proximity sensor, [radar sensor], any more then that and it becomes redundant, keep in mind all the extra stuff you add is going to cost you, not only for the part but for the install also.

I know of no authorized DEI dealer that sells no eBay, only authorized dealers can give manufacturers warranty, make sure the vendor is authorized, it is the only way to be sure you are getting a brand new, [not refurb/recalled, not a fake knockoff] in the box unit.
You will pay a little more at your local authorized retail dealer but if there is a problem, you just need to go back to them to have it covered by warranty.

Install a hidden kill switch independent of the alarm for a back-up, just in case the crook gets past the alarm. 94

OK thanks for the info. Would it make sense to have a main relay killswitch and fuel cut-off killswitch at the same time or would the main relay kill be enough?

Again thanks for the help. I just want as much info as I can get.

If you install a switch, [on/off] on the ground to the PGM-FI Main Relay it will cut power to the fuel pump, fuel injectors, ECU/ECM and a few engine sensors, it is a low current ground, [less then 250mA] so a small, easily hidden, 1A switch, can be used.94

You name one person that can start a car without a main relay..........waiting. Can not and will not be done. If hidden correctly and done right. A theif is not driving off with the car period.

We are trying to stay practical here. Who is going to carry quick release pedals. And if you did have those I am willing to bet that they would end up in the trunk.

I've never heard of quick release pedals before. Thanks for the info on the main relay.

Depending on how expensive the install will be, I might have to leave out some if not all of the accessories (backup battery etc...) Can these be installed later on or will it be a headache to add these once the stealth install is already done? Also, if I do end up not getting the accessories, are the any more effective measures I can take besides the main relay kill?

Thanks

sry for the thread jack... but im confused about the backup battery and corner lights...
read somewhere that if u have to wire it with a relay or something so it would only kick in when triggered while the battery is in place but if pulled it would not flash so that the backup battery would not be drained? can anyone add more info?
