I was driving home and noticed that my little display screen on the cd player wasnt working. Like the little lights by the ***** are still working but the screen isnt working. Then couple days later when I was driving to a friends house I noticed that the screen had started working again. Then when I got in the car the next time it didnt work again. What could be my issue? Should I just get a new face plate?
I dont think its the connection to the face plate and the stereo because I can still control volume and switch songs and such.

Maybe a little more information might help. Make / Model of the head unit. Is it motorized, flip face, standard, video, stock? All audio is working properly, just losing some of the light function periodically??

You mean you're not a mind reader? I am, and I know exactly what's wrong with his radio. But I'm not going to tell him.

Sorry. Its a Kenwood excelon kdc x-590. Its got a detachable face plate. Its one of those where you have to detach the face plate to put in the cd. Its not motorized. Audio works fine. Its just that the screen doesnt work. In the last month it only came on once which was about three weeks ago and it hasnt came on since then.
Here is a link to what it looks like.

There's probably a control flex going between the face & the chassis of the deck. I'd be willing to bet that the flex is bad, and your deck will need repair.
I just checked my normal source for Kenwood parts, and they don't list a flex separately. In fact, they only list 4 parts.
But I'd be inclined to think that the traces on the flex that control the display are broken. You can probably see the flex if you fold down the face, and look between the bottom edge of the face and the black front panel under the cd slot. It may be bronze/gold in color, or it may be black.

I didnt type it right. I meant would I just be better off getting a new deck rather than trying to find a place to fix it, also do you have any recomendations of places where I can take it?
Ohhh..
Well, if the deck isn't too old, then it may be worth fixing. I would say that unless you've got hookups, count on the repair being $100 or more with part(s) & labor.
I'm sure that deck was alot more than $100 being an Excelon. If you want to get it fixed, I know personally that United Radio in Syracuse, NY does great work. My shop uses them all the time, and I've had two decks fixed by them. However, a quick call to Kenwood or a Google search will probably result in you finding an authorized repair center closer to you.
