Rewiring the dash
Got a deal on a 99 civic coupe, the whole harness is fried 6 inches back into the dash from where the deck should be. Want to rewire it and have a friend who knows wiring who's gonna help, question is, was told the wires can be traced back to a harness that just comes out and I can rerun them. Gonna check fuses too, just haven't had the opportunity. Will Honda have the harness or Do I need to find it used? Or is it easier to just go back, clip the wires where they are fried and extend them?
Once wiring has burnt back into the harness itself it is best, in the long run, to replace the complete harness.
Looks like your less then 100mi from the Portland area, there are 3 PicknPulls up there, [down there for me] you can probablyfind a harness at one of them. 94

There are two (2) 99 Civics at PicknPull one at Portland south and one at Portland north you can also check at PicknPull for a "cross referance", other year/model Civic/Honda/Acura that use the same dash harness. 94
And maybe help me with what this plug is? I need a good manual for wiring, I've heard helms for mechanical, does it also have wiring diagrams? I worked this stuff in the military, but as far as cars go, my only experience is on an SRT, this is my first foray into the honda world. Learning day by day.
Thanks for your help.

That is the security plug for the oem alarm. Your better off pulling the whole dash out to make sure nonething else is melted or damage and replace the whole harness.
If you replace the harness it will be "plugnplay", you do not need a manual, although even a Haynes is good to have.
The only way to be sure you repaired all the damaged wiring, is to pull the dash and "open" the harness, I would only do all that work if I could not find an intact/undamaged one from a bone yard, [at a good price]. 94

What do you mean, " Brackets don't sound encouraging".
It should not take you more then 2-3 hr max to pull the dash out of the car, it takes me 1hr at most to pull a 99 Civic dash, it's not that hard, replacing dash harness another .5hr
Probably a little longer then 3-4 hr for you to reinstall the dash, about 1.5 hr for me.
Make it a weekend project andyou should be good to go by Sun, afternoon. 94
You put a good price in brackets, thought it was sarcasm as to it being expensive. Gonna find some time later this week, there's a couple of wreckers in town that might have something as well. Thanks for the info, I'll be giving it a go.
Where does the green plug connect to? I just saw a walk through that said it plugged into the cluster? I also have no dash lights... Car is an electrical nightmare.
So far:
Rewire melted harness-Get a new harness
No dash lights-Figure it out once I pull the dash
Right blinker stays lit when headlights are on-Check grounds and bulb connections
So far, that's all I've really taken tally of. Dome light and reverse lights work fine.
