yea, it wears out just like using your key all the time. no it does not hurt your car if it is installed correctly. ie- crank time is set right.
yeah i think it was the crank time, because i was talking with my friend and he said something like it'll ruin your timing? thanks for the input.
does anyone else got anything?

There are starters for manual cars, which are the same as starters for auto, except the manual car starter has a feature to prevent your car from starting in gear and damage itself and others. They're good and work.

I didnt know that they came out with that feature, ive seen some pretty bad damage done buy someone leaving the car in gear and then starting it.

does anyone else got anything?</TD></TR></TABLE> The crank time myth, is just that a myth it assumes the remote start will crank the motor longer then you would with a key, but because the remote start is monitoring tach. it shuts off crank, [starter] the instant a certain RPM is reached, every time, exactly the same, so over the years you probably crank the motor "longer" then needed, so here again the remote start would be better, I wonder if thats why new cars are starting to show up with an "auto start feature".

Today's remote starts for standards uses a "ready mode", when you come to a stop you must perform a short routine, step on foot brake - set "E" brake - remove foot from brake - turn off ign., [car will keep running] - get out of car - close door, [once last door is closed] motor will stop running, and as long as the remote start does not "see" a door opened, [the remote start is connected to the cars door pins] it will remotely start, if a door is opened "ready mode" is cancelled.
The remote start "knows" the car is not in gear because you got out of it when it was still running.

Ding ding! I tell customers this all the time, I dont know where this misinformation about remote starts came from.

remote starts are harmless. remote starts start with one of two settings:
TACH MODE: with tach mode set up, there is a wire reading tach signal. as soon as the crank spins, the starter is disengaged and the car will run for its pre-programmed time
SMART START: this uses voltage signal to know when the car has started. Smart start is the most common method of remote start installation, usually only unused on cars that have a harder time starting cold.
as far as a car being in gear and starting... with any remote start that is DESIGNED to work on a manual transmission, it's physically impossible. manual transmission starts monitor gear selecgtion ( namely neutral) and that the parking brake is engaged. these systems rely on a series of steps to make them functional
car in neutral
e-brake engaged
foot off brake/clutch
open door ( car will stay running)
shut car door
car is now in "reservation mode". if the door is opened ( someone may alter trans/ebrake), reservation mode is broken and must be re-completed prior to remote start.
compustar
schoche
omega ( select models)
these are a few of the more reputable manual transmission starts.

I did it the ghetto way by jumping (not cutting) the clutch switch. The car will start in gear, however, since I use a turbo timer, in order for me to leave my car in gear is to hold in the clutch pedal for 2 min until the car shuts off, so basically every time I get out of the car, it's in neutral for sure. Yes, it's dangerous, but I made a jumper plug so if I ever sell the car I'll just unplug the jumper and plug the harness back into the clutch pedal and bingo.. no more remote start unless the new owner purposely eliminates the clutch switch again.
Your remote start has a "status" out wire, [ground when running] just connect it to the "Clutch Interlocks" output wire.
