Default Radio lost its serial number

I've been to the dealer and talked with the hondausa tech support. I did a jumpstart on the battery and have tried implanting the 5 digit code...come to find the serial number has from 30******(correct #) to 30000000. Dealership has never seen it before...any ideas on a fix... The dealership wants $350plus to send out for a repair or 600-800$ for a new unit... I'm considering the aftermarket route.... Any thoughts..
