Default Power inverters

I am wondering how big of one I would need to plug in a home audio DVD/Mp3 player, There are one for sale from 100 watts to 3500 watts, what do I need? Are there any brands I should look for or stay away from?

Right but I don't think that it is measured in watts, what is the amp to watt ratio on a power inverter?

Every electronic device that plugs into the wall should have a label on it that shows power consumption. My DVD player says 14 watts, and my GameCube draws 39 watts. Look on the back near where the power cord enters the case.

the 350 rms / 700 watt peak should be enough... they sell them for like 40 bucks at walmart... Just start there, and if it trips the protection, just return it... walmart returns dept

The formula for power is: P/V=I or IV=P so if your DVD player draws 1A, then: .5a*120vac = 60watts.

^^^ EDIT: I stand corrected, what the hell was I smoking?? It's fixed now. Thanks vteg!

I think it is P=IV. So it would be 120 watts at 1 amp.

Watts = Volts * Amps.. But...

The inverters are rated at 14.4 volts, not 12. so you have to keep in mind everytime you turn on your lights, or your sub hits, or your alternator isnt running, the wattage specified for the inverter drops... Just get the cheapest one thats rated at least 1.5 times your power needs in continuous power (not peak!)... unless you buy a true sine wave inverter, they all do the same thing..

I did the same thing (home DVD playerk, $40 apex one and a $50 lcd screen, works fine). I bought the ~$50 one at Walmart, I can't remember the exact rating on it, but it works fine. Now I just need to hardwire it...

This is the reason, You can get the 1/2 sized (1/2 of a normal DVD or CD changer or something) for $60 at radio shack, lets see $50 for and inverter + $60 for a player + $150 for an LCD screen =5 $260

$1500 - $260 = a lot of money saved. (assuming you already have a head unit with audio inputs to amplify the sound)

Andyyep3, do you have any problems with the DVD skipping?
