opinions on spl setup
yeh i just wanted to get a clean start since i got my last system stolen a couple days ago. i was thinkin about puttin 2 15s in the back of my crx, my first system was 2 15 inch kicker comps w/ a 500w bazooka amp, it was louder than my L7 w/ 1200w goin to it, so i want somethin reallly loud. but i only want to spend about 100-150 on eeach sub. also ill prolly get a jbl 600w amp. maybe a 1200.1 if the subs require more power . any opinions on 15 inch subs? o i was thinkin about the new kicker comp vr's what do you think?
I dunno if you can get away with $150/ea for some 15's. How's about some lower end Diamond Audio 12's in a transmission line enclosure? I witnessed a Blazer with two RF 10's in a similar enclosure hit over 142db. Very impressive.

I am not planning on using my midbasses in my car for now. So I will design several enclosures for them (6.5" kickers) and see how they turn out.
Elemental Audio does not seem to have the 15k's anymore. It was in that price range. A pair of 15L7's would be very loud.
what do you think about 4 12 inch kicker comp vr's w/ 2 600 w jbl amps, or....6 10 inch kicker comp vrs, w/ the same amps. what dbs do you think i would hit, im asking this becuz my friend will sell me alot of subs for cheap, i like havin alot anyway, moves more air and feels cooler haha.
You Spl depends mainly on the install, then your power and electrical system start to come into play. You could do an awesome install and hit ~155 or if you go half assed ~140ish, who knows. You won't know until it is done.
so your sayin w/ 6 10 inch kicker comp vr's and 2 600w jbl amps, w/ a nice install, capacitors, eq, line drivers, etc... i should be able to hit 140 150 ish dbs? o, what about 6 10 inch JL subs w/ the same everything else? do you think it would sound better/ louder.?

There are way to many variables...There really is no magic formula to use to get
great SPL numbers ( though I wish there was). I am going to offer some great
tips....:
a. If you are going to compete in any recognized comps ( DbDRag,SLAP,USACI,
IASCA).Know the rules. Most of the current rulebooks are on the respective sites. This cannot be stressed enough. Nothing suck worse than building
a system only to have it ruled illegal by the head judge.
b. Know your competition. You have a great car (
) for Spl Comps.
It really does not take a lot to pull mid 140's out of that car. But everyone
who competes knows this as well...so competition may be fierce. Most
of the organizations have a stats page..here it will list what the numbers are.
If you want to do say Street A for example: You have an idea of what others
are doing, and plan accordingly. ( I saw the certified world record rex in person
Carlos and Gina's black rex....158 db..ouch..4 subs 4k watts..)
He is who Im gunning for...who's your target.
c. research...research...research. Go to any site and do a search on *crx box*
have fun with the results. Know your car, know your product.
d. Above all....have fun. So what if you dont win a trophy or get your
nutz handed back to you...its fun. There is always next weekend and you will
meet some great peeps who share the same passion as you have ( and who knows
they may give you advice on how to win) Set personal goals for yourself and
always try to do better than the last time. As long as you have fun..it worth it.
( plus when a pal says his car does 150 and you hear it you can say NOPE!! its
about mid 30's)

Oh and just in case you were wondering...I'm builing my rex for street class 1-2
(1-360) No wall.....I'll see you in the lanes ( be vey afraid.....hehehehe

i dont really plan on competing right now, i mean im only 17 and work at a grocery store, ha, but if i do ill probly invest in a few adire brahmas, or some strokers,
how do you think these setups would turn out,
6 10 inch jl w0's w/ 2 jbl 600w amps
-or-
6 10 inch kicker comp vr's w/ 2 jbl 600w amps
i just want to be able to blow people away ya know, not really for competing , but have a respectably loud system. round 130db ?

Where does everyone get this idea that you have to spend a ton of
cash in order to compete ( on local levels that is)? Look so your 17
and work in a store...SOO WHAT!! Is there some written rule out there that
says you cant go out and have fun too? Please someone wake this kid up.
You can compete and not go broke and have a lot of fun while you're at it.
You want loud..okay. I'll help you.
Forget the 6 10's.....get 2 12" subs ( 12" L5's or 12w3v2d4 will do nice)
add 1 kicker kx12001 or jbl 1200 watt or if you gotta have 2 - kicker kx6001
you box size will be 14" H 29" W 29" D ( or about 5cu ft...about 2.5 per sub)
use .75 mdf...the box will be ported..find a great enclosure program or I'll send you the info.
wire up amp(s)...if you do the 2 kicker 600...they will be slave master configuration. Kick the vent about 4" from rear of hatch....play a test tone
of 47 hz....nearly spooge yourself because your car is hella loud.
Go forth and terrorize the neighborhood
You will be in the area of 147-149 db.
Its up to you...you can be a follower or you can take a vets advice and
be a leader. Less in this case is more...

i understand what your saying but ive been through the 12s vented, i had 2 L7s , got stolen the otehr day, yeh they were loud, but i didnt really like them, they didnt hit very hard. and i was just saying i couldnt buy nice subs like adire or cerwin vega cuz im broke. i like the way multiple 10s or 12s hit, sound and feel. also i like having more becuase of the fact if moves more air, increasing db, and this would not be an expensive setup, since i could get the subs for around 50-70 a piece.
but aside from opinions of my planned setup, what do you think ....kicker comp vr's or jl w0s? or what other 10s.?? thats what i want an opinion on
thanks for that last post though, i know your just trying to help me

Just because the multiple sub setup "sounds" louder or "hits" harder, that doesn't mean that it will put up better spl numbers. Car audio is an inexact science. Sometimes you'll luck out an everything will go by the books, and other times what's not suppose to work does. It's mostly trial and error.
i know it wont really make the spl numbers any better, but eyyy im not competing, this is just messin around havin some fun with alot of subs, i dont know why i really want 6 10s but i do, i know a guy that had 4 RF 10s and i liked it just give me some opinions

Clif notes. Subbass is felt, midbass is heard. Sound from subs is distortion.
