If they are over $150 I would listen to them first. Pioneer would be the bottom of my list though. I would go for the focal, since I think 3 and 4 way coaxes are worthless in general.

for about $150, you can get a really nice component set. components just sound so much cleaner than regular systems.

i have these in my WRX, and the sound quality is amazing. they handle all the power i can throw at em (theyre amped) and still sound amazing:

yeap those. The Type S work better on a non-amped system, but if you have a 4 channel or something to run the Type R's off of they are beautiful. You *can* run them off the radio but you won't be getting the full potential out of them

DON'T go wtih the kappa's unless you're listening to classical music. Their high's bite and it can't handle lows whatsoever, the magnet is unbelieveably small. But if you're dead set on them I have a set I'll sell to you for $30 shipped overnite. A hell of a sale's pitch eh?

magnet size has relatively little significance in a coaxials because you usually won't be pushing much power to them. Focal has usually been the number one rated speaker for SQ. And contrary to popular belief, A coaxial can sound just as good as a component set if it has the outboard x over.

R's are better I have two sets, About to amp them, but so far they rock, couldn't be happier. Go with them, MB or Focal.

none of these appeal to me. i have heard all of these and carry all of these brands at my work. the MB, i hate to say, is the better one out of the 4. still on the bright side but not ear piercing, the focal access line is just ****, the mids sound very echoish(echo). the kappas lack mids and midbass kinda sounds like a 6" tweeter. the pioneer is just ear piercing brightness.

sicne infinity was one of orginal choices, i would recommend the infinity reference, very balanced out speaker. the highs, mids and lows match up pretty well.

also keep in mind that an eq can also change a way a speaker sounds

whatever albert said..

i'd save up a little long to get better stuff. its worth it in the end. i learned my lesson. i bought cheap stuff at the beginning and wasted so much money.

i too would pick mbquarts out of those.
