Default noob question...how do i use a volt meter?

im a noob. how do u use a volt meter? i know there's a red stick and a black stick. there's 2 wires i gotta mess with. i have to find an ignition wire that does not drop voltage when the starter is activated. how do i do this?

hold the black probe to ground and red to the wire? i dunno.

Yup. You answered your own question. Black to ground and red to the wire you're probing.
