help.. stuck installing digital6 etc
FYI:
i did do a search and found this:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=172857 , i im'ed itr206 and he was not sure how he did his...
i have the hvc blaster coil-pn#8252
i have a digital6, and also the modded distribtor cap
they way i wired it is:
red wire = 12+ to battery
black wire= ground on battery
orange wire= positive side of msd coil
black wire= negative side of msd coil
trigger wires..
white wire= going to negative side were oem coil was
red wire= *tried 2 differnet ways*
1st connected *red wire* to the ring termial that came off oem coil w/ black/yellow wire connected normally and taped connection.... car wouldn't start
2nd connected red wire to a switched 12+ and left the black/yellow connected as it normally is... still wouldn't start
3rd connected red wire in place of black/yellow and still no go
the instructions says for the trigger wires, (black and red) the red goes to 12v switched, and black to negative were oem coil was?
any help??

I have that red wire tapped into the black/yellow 12v switched wire going into the distributer and it works fine. Do you still have your stock internal coil in the distributer?

Re: help.. stuck installing digital6 etc (boostaholic)
no when i had it all connected (msd equipment) i had the stock coil removed.
when the stock coil removed the black/yellow wire has a 2nd wire which is has a end with a ring terminal were it was connected to the + side of oem coil.
i attached the red wire around the ring terminal and taped it.
connect the msd cap and connected plug wire to msd coil and still didn't start

that positive oring wire should be extended directly to 12v source . that was the other wire i had comingout of the cap .
and the neg of the stock coil io forget which color was that other wire coming off the dig 6, once you got that you should be good to go . . . . its the pos wire from the old coil that permits the car to start. . . thats where i fucked up on mine. the 1st block of instructions in the manual should be the best diagram that msd gave you .

Re: help.. stuck installing digital6 etc (coil222)
The black/yellow wire still needs to be connected to the ICM inside the distributer. Tap the Red 12v switched wire from the MSD box to this black/yellow wire and connect the White wire from the MSD box to the post where the stock coil negative terminal wire went to. Kinda confusing but hope that helps.

Re: help.. stuck installing digital6 etc (coil222)
Yeah, that black/yellow wire is a 12v switched wire that sends a 12v positive signal through when you turn the key to the ignition position. The red wire from the MSD box needs to tap into that signal and that black/yellow wire still needs to go to the ICM to give it power so don't disconnect it.

Re: help.. stuck installing digital6 etc (boostaholic)
Ok update
I got curious and tested wire to verfiy I was getting signal to them.
I am getting pwr/ground to main lead. The orange and black wires are connected to the msd coil correctly.
I have the msd coil grounded correctly also.
Test the black/yellow wire with is 12v switched.
So wiring is ok.
Thing is I think the ignition is bad out the box, when looking at the unit connected in "on" position the led doesn't even light up.
So I checked my buddy's setup (coil222) he also has a digitial6 and msd coil, in the "on" position the led should light up.
Oh well gotta call msd in the morning and see what to do on getting this damn replace. new out the box and the **** is broke...
thanks for the info guys...

Re: help.. stuck installing digital6 etc (Midwestrider)
What do you mean that the MSD coil is grounded correctly, the coil should only be connected to the MSD box. If you grounded the negative side of the coil this could verywell be your problem.

Re: help.. stuck installing digital6 etc (Midwestrider)
now what i did is left the black and yellow wire in the tab and that oring i tapped a wire into that and ran that wire to the 12v sweitched . you need to still have that black and yellow to that tab. it branches off to soemthing else.
fix that and it will work , cuz thats who i have mine.

turbosol:
with msd coil you have to connected the +/- wire from the msd unit. and also ground this coil-hvc blaster coil #8252
itr206:
what is did is i connected the black/yellow wire, and striped some the wire coating back and attached the red wire.
the black/yellow is switched 12v, i verfied with my test light... still didn't work
i get no led on the side of the digital6

Re: help.. stuck installing digital6 etc (itr206)
Horray!!!
The problem is a bad coil.. I tested for spark and got nothing so I wired into the OEM coil.
Wired and car started.... Yah...
The problem with the coil is on the tower were the plug wire goes, there is a crack about along both sides.
Again thanks boostaholic, and itr206
So I gotta send back the coil and get a new one.

Re: help.. stuck installing digital6 etc (itr206)
Glad you found the problem, i was about to propose you test the coil next. An easy way to see if your coil is working if you know you have all the wiring correct is take the lead wire off the external coil and spin the motor over. You will see hella spark jump from the positive and negative posts into the lead wire boot. Anyway, just call up MSD and tell them your problem. They have great customer service and will warranty out your coil free of charge. My 6AL crapped out on me once on the way to a race and they took care of everything
