Need some advice on system install
well, this is my first time posting in this section of H-T, considering i used to just BS my way through things with my first car (1990 Honda Accord LX). I have a few questions on a couple different topics on my system install, so i figure i'd just post them here rather than making a bunch of different topics.
i now have a 94 Vigor with 2 10" Kicker Comp subs in some generic type of box being pushed by a kenwood 320W 4ch amp (bridging 2 channels). i know it's probably not beating the block down like most of you in here, but i'm only going for a clean sound, nothing too deafening.
one day when i was driving, i started to hear that my system sounded a little like it was burping. i didn't pay too much attention to it considering i'm no expert when it comes to stereos. about a couple days later, i had to put something in my trunk...and that's when i realized what the problem was. about half of the bullshit styrofoam cone on my right speaker was pretty much gone and some was gone in certain areas on my left speaker.
as i'm shaking my head, i start to think, "well, i guess it's finally time to upgrade to some 12's." now, for my eventual system, i want to get 2 Solo Baric 12" L5's (or maybe L7's if i can get a good deal), but for now, Best Buy has this one brand that is made by Alpine which was made specifically for Best Buy (i can't remember the name, but it is 2 12" subs w/a 300W amp made to push those subs). fortunately, these subs have a rubber cone so i don't think i have to worry about the cone messing up like this set did. this time though, i don't want to go w/ some bullshit box, i'd really like to make my own so that it is the right volume for those subs.
here are my questions for the box.
1. What type of wood do i need to buy to make this box.
2. When making the box, on the inside, should i use wood glue to help seal the seams properly so air won't leak out? If not wood glue, what else is recommended?
3. Should i use any type of insulation on the inside of the box? If so, what kind and where do i get it from?
4. When making the box, is it better to use a small nail gun or just get some screws?
ok, now that i will have an extra 4ch amp, i was hoping to use it to power my main speakers. do you think that my factory speakers can handle the amp, or would ou recommend that i get some aftermarket speakers before installing the 4ch amp? i also have an in-dash Power Acoustic EQ. the way it is set up now is my bullshit CD player runs to the EQ and the amp that is in there now runs from the EQ. when i set up the 4ch to power my main speakers, do i just splice into the existing harness/speakers and adjust the volume from the EQ itself?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
--as you can see, i'm kind of a noob when it comes to this part of my car. i'm just looking to have a nice clean look and a crisp sound.

I will start with the box.......
1- Use MDF at least 3/4".
2- Yes use a good wood glue to assemble box.
3- We will sometimes cover some of the inside surfaces of the box with an automotive carpet underlay, [not the foam/rubber stuff but the recycled cloth type] we only use it if box needs "dampening"
4- We predrill and counter sink and use a coarse tread wood screw on all our boxes.
For a proper box all the inside seams should be braced, [small blocks of wood, 3/4"x3/4"x 1-2 inches glued in along the seams every few inches or so] "paint" inside of box with a wood sealer, [we use fiberglass resin] and just to be sure it's airtight run a bead of silicone along every inside seam.
Yes you could use the 4ch, but as you mention, the stock speakers can only take so much, [you can always replace them after you blow them]

since the amp that is coming with the system that i am getting isn't really that powerful, how necessary is the bracing?
also, since i've never had to fiberglass anything, where would i be able to pick up some resin?
lastly, i plan on shaving my antenna mast, so i was hoping to find somewhere that sold an internal antenna of some sort. would i be able to go to any audio store and ask for this?
sorry for all the questions, but since this car is a "luxury" car, i want my install to look and sound as clean as possible.

You can get a "fix kit" at most car parts stores, any marine supply store, and I would be willing to bet your town has at least one "fiberglass supply" store. the "kit" will come with everything you need, [resin, catalyst, brushes, mixing cups] including, [in some] fiberglass mat that you do not need.
Yes any car audio will be able to get you an "intenna" something like this.....

Nothing to be sorry about, asking enough questions, [and getting right answers] will get the job done right.
