If you want a good "basic" sound system, I would recommend getting the alpine speakers you mentioned and a good mid level aftermarket hu. Realistically, the hu won't run you much more than a usaspec ipod adapter.

If you're concerned about theft, leave your stock radio in place and put your aftermarket hu in the pocket right in front of your cupholders. Flip the cupholder cover up when you park.

you should put a aftermakret hu in aswell
id recomend getting a alpine deck, one thats full speed capable, so you can run the ipod through the deck,

yep, alpine hu with ipod dock, it will charge your pod also, and that alpine hu with built in processor will "liven" up your music alot, your will be impressed, to me having a stock hu is almost like listening to music through a wall..
