Mount Small Sub on Rear Deck
Can you mount a sub on a DC2 Teg rear deck? I need my trunk space.
Called crutchfield and they highly didn't suggest it. I don't want a whole lot fo bass. Was planning on putting a one 8" or 10" sub on my rear deck.

No.
Bad idea.

I have seen it done. At the shop that I work at there is a guy that has 2 JL8W3 on the back deck of his civic. But he said that you have to brace the back deck and use light weight MDF and not the regualer stuff. That way the weight of the box stays down.
You'd have to reinforce the deck obviously and also build an enclosure around the bottom of the sub or it will sound strange. I've seen it done with 6x9s on an Integra, but the install came out awful and the problems never stopped.
No.
VERY, VERY, Bad Idea.
Subs do not function well in decks. They have to much air to move compared to the trunk. Believe it or not, the air space around the sub effects is as well as the space inside the enclosure. Looks good, but functions bad. You'd be better off getting some of those flat subs (Earthquake makes them) and putting them under your seats. I've heard they are alright for bass. IMO

That said. there are some things you will have to deal with, I already mentioned it can't be a hatch, you need to use a "freeair" sub, [nothing more then a sub that uses a huge box], [about the size of your trunk] the sub would have to be mounted to a baffle made of MDF mounted and sealed to the bottom of the rear deck, the trunk would have to be sealed as good as it can be from the interior of the car, if all the above is done properly, [lots of work] then you can get pretty good sub bass.
Now with that said, although still lots of work, you can get very good results, [bass response] without installing a sub at all.
I have a 94 teg LS with an Alpine HU and 4 Eclipse 6.5" 2way speakers no subs, no amps, and it sounds great and enough bass that more then a few times, when demoing the system, I have been accused of having a hidden sub and amps or at least an amp for the speakers in the stock locations.
I did spend a lot of time and energy installing the speakers, the front speakers are mounted to custom MDF mounting brackets, [replacing the stock plastic ones] the doors have been Dynamated, the rear speakers are mounted in custom MDF and fiberglass cabinets, also have some Dynamating back there, and the tweeters have been disconnected, the HU, a high power Alpine, gets it's main power right from the batt., [yellow constant power]. Works for me, all the bass I need.
